For the LLE or less? Name one.
Kirk Snyder....?
We're talking about replacing the number 2 player in the world with a guy I haven't even heard of?
For the LLE or less? Name one.
Did you know who Ime Udoka was before the Spurs signed him?
Snyder wouldn't replace Manu. He'd be third in the depth chart behind Mason and Finley.
Huh? Or maybe a can of Campbell's tomato soup?
It is just ing sad that we're talking about the most successful NBA team in the last ten years....![]()
I don't see what's sad about suggesting a very cheap option for a guy who would be the 4th or 5th guy off the bench for a few months in the event that Manu needs surgery... I think you're over-reacting. Teams aren't composed of 15 all-stars. Smart FOs find bargains to fill out rosters.
I still find it odd that neither Hill or Hairston have recieved an offer yet. I wonder if there is a trade really being discussed or if the Spanoulis rumor might be true and they are waiting...
I'd have to look at the free agency list but trust me, anything is better than that brain dead re .
Whats the hurry? They have their rights. Nothing new in it.
What Spanoulis rumor is that? if they could get Spanoulis to come over, the Spurs could come out on top again.
snyder isn't the worst idea. in fact, if he signed for small money (a contract like Ime's), he is a low risk high reward option.
people should look at his defensive potential.
he is not just athletic, he is one of the few players, who are strong enough to withstand the strongest wings, but still quick enough for to stay in front of any player at his position.
the question are bb smarts and character. maybe he will never get it, but could he ever find a better environment to somehow get it than with the Spurs?
in the position the Spurs are in currently, it seems smarter to take a low risk gamble rather than look for another JV type signing.
btw. anyone remember James Posey in his first years? he also wasn't called smart and he was also somehow problematic. (and as far as I remember, the Rockets fans also didn't exactly love him). if it was possible to turn Posey into a a player with a decent understanding of the game and a perfect role player, why not try with a player, who displays almost exactly the same potential?
I would rather sign Luke Jackson if he is available
Well I know in Hairston's case they lose his rights and he becomes a FA if they do not make him an offer before training camp. It also seems a little strange that considering there is not much room for negotiation (80%-120%) because of the rookie pay scale and no other back ups that Hill would not have gotten an offer. Just leads me to believe that something may be in the works, not sure.
Haven't most of the first rounders already been signed?
First of all, chill out about Manu. If he does need surgery, then we can all go ing insane.
But KIRK SNYDER? That guy is horrible. His jumpshot is horrible.
Yes. Our resident Spanoulis lover has said the he and the Spurs were in talks before the Olympics and were waiting until after they ended to negotiate. He posted an article, but I, along with others, seriously doubt it is true.
Yes sign snyder, he can play the 2 or 3 and is very athletic. He can drawl fouls and gets to the rim. So GMs believe he can be a solid 3rd scoring option. Im not that optomistic but I can see him as a good fourth or fifth guy.
Not many players his size still out there.
On the Spanoulis front, I have also heard he wants to join the spurs. I know there was talk between his reps and the spurs and one reason spurs have not signed Malik is to see whats up with Spanoulis.
He said he wanted to play over seas one yr and come back so nows his chance. He could give us a lift of the bench. I think he will be a spur either this yr or in 2010.
If we get Spanoulis, in my opinion that would give the Spurs the best pg combo in the league.
He shot 50.8% FG last year-- that's higher than Bowen, Udoka, Finley, and Mason. He isn't a big time scorer, but he does attack the rim and rebound well, and is relatively efficient. Again, let me emphasize, he is not a star or a replacement for Manu-- he is a cheap solution to a 5th wing. Jesus, some of you act like I'm comparing him to Danny Granger or Luol Deng.
I agree, go get him for LLE better option the Hairston
That's a very interesting point. I remember when Jerry West signed Posey as a FA in Memphis-- it hardly even registered as a story back then.
He shot over 50% playing for the T-wolves, a very bad team. Theres a very good chance his percentage is gonna plummet if he were to play for the Spurs, especially if he can't figure out the offense. Also, for a 4th option/role player he's kinda turnover prone averaging 1.8 turnovers last season, while most Spurs not in the big 3 averaged < .8.
Signing this guy would be a waste, we already have Mason. Even if he gets signed to a minimum contract, regardless of risk, it ties up the FO's hands for later in the season if they get in a crunch or another deal comes along. The season is still months away so who knows will happen from here to the playoffs.
How about DeMarr Johnson? Are we forgetting about him? He could be a servicable stop-gap solution. After all, he's played in the system before and is a long, athletic shooter.
I thought he signed in europe... I'll do some research later. I thought Julius Hodge might be interesting too, but he signed in Australia I believe.
AGREE I LIKE BONZI
I agree on the turnovers, that's a concern. The FG% could potentially go up on a good team-- there weren't as many options to distract defenders in Minnesota... Doing nothing could be the wisest move, saving the LLE for next year, although he could be a possible trade asset to bundle with other players... anyway, thanks for a well thought out answer. It gets annoying when someone on Spurstalk suggests a 12th or 13th insurance guy for a minimum salary and people immediately respond with he sucks he's not an all-star! he won't score 15 points a game....
Now the thread le can officially be:
Manu will definitely get surgery. Should the Spurs pursue Kirk Snyder?
