It's been a little obvious I'm not in the McCain-Palin camp the infrequent times I post here, but one of the points I couldn't help but make tonight was this: Gov. Palin's speech tonight wasn't so much for the country, but for the base, and I have to agree, she knocked it out of the park.
I think any doubts the base might have had about McCain's pick were wiped away with her fire, rhetoric, jabs and background. If I'm in the campaign, I send Palin to swing states right now and get her stumping.
There's a significant part of this country that looks at Palin and sees their mother or a mother they know. Say what you will about her experiences, but the fact is she has raised a family not unlike many Americans while working as a public servant and that's commendable.
I think she's a good orator who took a speech that was designed to solidify and energize the base and she performed. The next 60 days are going to be great for the country, and I think both campaigns start on relatively equal footing tomorrow.

I haven't read all of the comments here, but I thought I'd pass on what I heard tonight about Palin's speech.
According to CNN, the original VP speech was written before she came on board.
Once she was named, though, the speech was rewritten, and she helped...so really, who cares if Bush's speech writers wrote it originally? In the end, it was changed and tailor-made for her.
In a free market the only true indicator is money. Which Republicans are ready to step up and collect what they see as FREE MONEY based upon their belief that McCain is going to win the election? Who turns down free money?
