They're forcasting 25 foot storm surge? WTF? Thats nuts from a cat 2. I knew the surge would be higher than usual because of the large wind field but I didn't think it would be ing Katrina surge.
Holy Batman! This one has potential.

the people ing about not getting rain.
* Galveston and Houston are going to take it up the ass.
* 1/3 of the nation's refining capacity sits right in the bullseye as of the latest update. Say o to $6 gasoline.
Its predicted to land as a 3 and outside shot of being a 4.
This is the first time I've seen a prediction of over a 20ft surge...most of the talk has been about 20 max...that is crazy! So even with the seawall they are pretty much effed!
As stated, Ike is now larger than Katrina was, with a wider wind field. This hurricane is going to be disaster for the Galveston area. I hope everyone living there leaves.
ing . This is gonna be entertaining. For the record i dont want anyone to get hurt.
Katrina was also a lot stronger. A ton stronger.
I dunno - I'm very skeptical of any surge over 18ft high barring no further deepening of the storm.
That may be, but wind speed isn't everything. Plus, Ike is still forecasted to strengthen at least to a Category 3.
Storm surge on Pensacola Beach, several hundred miles from Ike:

This storm is absolutely scary.
Also an unconfirmed report of a very high tide in Texas which is being attributed to the proximity of Ike.
yeah th swells from this storm are causing coastal flooding all over the gulf. I was expecing big surge, but not record surge. 27 feet would be the 2nd highest surge ever.
Keep in mind that the continental shelf is very flat offshore a LONG ways which makes it easier for the storm to build up a surge.
This isn't the best map but gives an idea of the difference in the shelf offshore Houston and NoLa:

Thats why they pay the meteorologists the big bucks, Manny you are just a wannabe :0
Easjer, SFIE, & Enigma...you guys might want to check out this link. It's supposed to estimate what the winds will be in each zip code of Houston.

K well we'll see about the surge, but I'm a betting man and If the O/U was at 20ft I'm taking the under![]()

I know there are so, so many people that are going to be devastated by this storm, and there is nothing wrong with my perspective of the whole scheme of things .... but it really makes me sad that my 2 poor little baby trees may not fare very well. We had 20-25 mph gusts not all that long ago and they just barely hung on. And they are the only one's we've got. *sniff, sniff*![]()
Lots of people in Galveston are right there with you.
Jeff Masters wins again

Hokey smokes. I've never seen anything like that written before.
That's insane. Hopefully all living on the water that are going to be washed out have left.
"FACE CERTAIN DEATH"
