Glad they're putting it in black and white like that. We have clients down in Galveston, talked to one this afternoon on her way out, she told me some folks were staying behind saying it wouldn't be anything more than another Rita.

And she pointed out the surge was already lapping at the sea wall, and they had been told on the news about 4 foot of surge in Pensacola, 400 miles from the storm.

Sadly it sounds like Darwin's going to be awfully busy the next 48-72 hours.

the people ing about not getting rain.

    * Galveston and Houston are going to take it up the ass.

    * 1/3 of the nation's refining capacity sits right in the bullseye as of the latest update. Say o to $6 gasoline.
So you say the people ing about rain, and then about refining capacity

Rain in one location isn't even close to something that will impact the entirety of our economy nationally.

First and foremost it's frustrating to hear people are staying, because it's clear this storm means business.

But I was talking a step back from that and looking at the impact on the entire nation.

Damn, I hope for the best for Houston. I used to live on the Southside of Houston, and it flooded horribly anytime there was any kind of major rain.

Anyone leaving Houston area should leave at about 2 or 3 am tonight to escape the log jam of cars leaving tomorrow.

I know it's redundant, but I want to echo the others. Get the out. They are predicting 50 mph winds here in Dallas, over 200 miles from where this going to hit. If you're within 100 miles of the coast, get the out.

Damn, the reports are getting scarier everytime I turn on the news.As an adult I've only experienced Rita, so if this the real deal as they say I guess I better make plans to leave.
I thought I would be ok because I live in the non evac zone.I live on the third floor of an apt too, so no telling how it will hold.

I think they'll (Easjer, SFIE, & Enigma) will be alright IF they are prepared and NOT in a flood zone. The force of this hurricane is abnormally weaker than first predicted, it's just that it's a huge ing storm and the windfield is super spreadout.

This storm is absolutely huge, but its also not very strong because its so broad. Wind reports are going to be low. A lot of the wind is over the ocean and its not mixing down there so its not going to do so over land. I dunno, I don't expect much wind wise out of this storm but the surge should be the story.

Only one that matters with that southern shift if the GFS. Should be interesting to watch though. I told you guys that the cone was very important with this storm and not the actual path and if the GFS verifies then thats definitely the case.

Ike's winds are up 5 mph. Showing signs of strengthening as per NHC. North-western quadrant now looks a little weaker but Ike appears to be forming an eye.
