yeah.
I am a close friend of Hill's as some of you know.. hes been kinda off the grid in past month.. but when I recently talked to my close friend who recently saw George at his labor day bash in Indy, Hill quoted as to being signed to a 4 year deal with the spurs... I've known george and the source of this info for 10+ years so im more inclined to believe this than the speculation on here... take it with a grain of salt or question my credibility but according to Ghill hes a spur for 4 years.
If it's true, what's keeping the FO from making an announcement?

The Spurs always keep things close but I don't get why there's been no news on a signing.
James Gist
Though I don't doubt that he has intention to sign, I don't believe he has officially signed yet. Spurs send out a press release with each signing. He is also still listed as an unsigned draft pick on the Spurs site.
4 years is alot
I wonder if the spurs would have option on year 3 and 4
Yes, that's how rookie contracts are.
George told my friend this yesturday, again whether this is an official signing or a theoretical contract, i have not confirmed... I am only telling spurs nation this info because I don't feel im betraying my friends confidence and I know people are greatly wondering about this issue... I am going to do some more digging.
Well if he agreed to sign on Friday or signed this weekend or something, maybe it will be official tomorrow. Thanks for the news.
it has been awhile since the spurs signed first round draft pick
my bad
off subject, how long is gist gone to europe?

This is the Rookie Salary Scale for 1st round draft picks for the 2008-2009 season. The teams may sign a player ranging from 80% - 120% of the scale for the position in which the player was selected, and in almost every case the player is signed for 120% of the scale value. Unsigned players count at 100% of scale for the team's salary (against the cap).

If Hill signs and Gist comes back after a year of pro experience in Europe, our future looks a bit brighter.
That used to be the case a couple of years back, but now, both years 3 and 4 are team options. The teams also used to have to pick up that year 4 option before year 3 even started. WTF?
I guess no one wanted to trade with us?
if this ends up being truth; jayc23 will gain credibility![]()
Is Don Harris on this yet!?!?!?!?!?!?
![]()
Third and fourth years are a team option. That changed a couple years ago.
not that i'm doubting you or anything, but if you really are a close friend, couldnt you just call him and confirm instead of going by what a friend of a friend says?
either way, i hope it's true
I'm pretty sure Hill would be annoyed if somebody, even one of his close friends, randomly called him asking for information about his contract..athletes will be cautious enough about their surroundings once they get their big contract, it wouldn't do any good for jayc to call him and ask him about a money-related question..
I run 2 businesses now... so im more than overloaded, and even some of George's good friends who have known him all of his life.. hes all over the place... and his phone is tied up constantly ... I also give him his space because everybody and their mother that has met him over the past years is knocking his door down...
I'm just trying not to be that guy.. I get most of my info from his cousins etc.. I prefer to be a friend not a groupie.. whether he becomes a star, a 7th man or a flop.. i'll be his friend to the end... see http://spurstalk.com/forums/showthre...=100376&page=2 for more info
ya in the weeks before draft camp.. we sat down and joked about what cars he would buy.. what houses he would get and where... but seriously.. when the stuff actually comes to fruition ... its over whelming... and I sure as am not going to be an annoying little fly on his shoulder, like alot of people are being to him right now.. I've played with him and watched him play all his life.. I believe in his ability.. and that hes going to be something more than a black beno... I don't really need to question if hes getting a contract or not.. if the spurs won't take him.. im sure LA or boston will have his number... its a matter of weeks and it won't be hearsay and conjecture.

It's a good thing that you'll be his friend till the end, because I guarantee he will be a bust. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but he doesn't have NBA talent.
