that was ugly ... time to talk about the draft ...
draft all offensive linemen and cornerbacks .... even though still have holes at middle linebacker and kick returner. need all the quality o-linemen and corners they can get.
That's not true... if it were true, he would have renamed the team the Ford Footballers, they would have chrome face masks, they would skimp on payroll so that they could have 37 different kinds of shoulder pads, and all their best players would be from Mexico.

That would be a smart plan. But this is Millen. Every facet of the team has holes. Guys they draft they don't use or are horrid. This team is going nowhere for at least the next three years. At least. And Millen is going to be the first 100 loss GM in NFL history. No one will come close to touching that record.
He passed over Harris for Stanton when MLB was a huge need. Passed over Merriman, Ware and DJ for Mike Williams. Guy doesn't know what he's doing and everybody knows it except the guy who owns the team.
That said, I'm guessing TE and RB in the first two rounds.
Your guess as is good as mine, Shoog.
No rational argument can be made for him still having a job, let alone an argument for him to continue to do the job.
It makes me want to cry.
yeah I have to agree, Millen is absolutely horrible, but I don't think he is the worst part of the organization. He may be really bad, but the Fords are what keep the lions losing. Detroit is a great fan base, but until the Fords sell the team to someone who actually cares about winning, we're going to be stuck with the usual " Wait til next year...." line.
Actually flintstone...I think all that needs to happen is let the younger Ford run the team. Elder Ford has no clue what the he is doing going on the better part of a half century.
Oh, and they will skip all our needs and draft another bust qb and another wide receiver. Oh, and disgruntled...the Lions will win the last game, effectively moving down 5 spots in the draft, which happens every year.
Uh, no ... they won't.
They haven't won in GB since '91. Even GB's 2nd string can beat the Lions.
And it doesn't matter where they draft if they don't draft the right players/positions and the same bag is making the picks.

Extremely long letter to Millen, from DisgruntledLionFan#3,027, which was sent to local and national writers/pubs, the entire Lions organization, etc.:
Matt Millen,
Once again we're coming into the Christmas season and in most people's mind it's the giving season. You've been with the Detroit Lions organization for nearly seven years and to the best of my knowledge have done nothing but take from the lions to the tune of about $30,000,000. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but what have you ever given back to the Detroit community? Isn't it true that since you've been here all you have done is take? While I may be speaking for myself in this writing, I can assure you the greatest gift you could ever give to the lions organization and their die hard fans is your RESIGNATION.
I truly appreciated your passion and efforts on the field and viewed you as a very knowledgeable TV commentator. I actually had hope for the lions when your hiring was announced. However, I think even you would have to agree you have gotten in way over your head as a NFL Franchise President/CEO/GM and have taken on much more responsibility than you're capable of handling. Everyone has some level of pride and while I'm confident yours is extremely high, your being stubborn and prideful is truly hurting a lot more people than you can ever imagine. That's a high price to pay on your part, agreed? Come on Matt, money should no longer be an object for use as you have taken enough money over the last seven years to set up you, your kids, and even their grand kids for life!
I can't blame you for taking on a this tremendous opportunity and none of us really know what we are capable of until we challenge and stretch ourselves to see what we truly can accomplish. I also can't blame you for taking an offer that no one in their right mind could refuse, but at some point personal gain has to be weighed against the results of your efforts and how they positively or negatively effect others. While I'm confident you've given it your best effort over the last Millen-ium, unfortunately your best is obviously not good enough, even to the most casual of viewers. Thank you for your efforts.
Seven years seem like an eternity for most Lion fans and I find it truly sad to see that at this point so many would be thrilled just to see the team finally get back the level of mediocrity it was stuck at prior to your arrival. How about you? Matt, you've had plenty of time to learn on the job and unfortunately things have only gotten worse from the time you assumed your current position with the Lions in a league ripe with parity. After seven years of opportunity and a true advantage (on better performing teams) to draft the top college players and build a winning organization, it's utterly amazing and hard to believe how low this organization has sank. 30-78, and just when we thought we had already seen rock bottom, well, guess again!
Matt, you have absolutely no idea how frustrating it is to be a long time die hard fan and year after year have to put up with watching the team you've faithfully followed continue to be beyond pathetic. It's even more frustrating to have to sit back and watch Bill Ford continue to accept the bar being so low and not seeing the light that so many others so easily see and yet feel so helpless in not being able to take any action. You've seen the Millen Man Marches of protest, the chants of Fire Millen! have been heard in arenas across the country, and the internet web sites build around you and your unbelievable failures. There truly is nothing to get excited about now or in the foreseeable future with this organization!
In closing, I'm not going to beg you to do what's truly right for the organization and give thousands of people something to be thankful for during the giving season. My only hope is this letter inspires you to think a little harder about the state of the lions and what effect you and only you could have on it's future. At this point, It's all up to you Matt. You need to take the action Bill Ford doesn't appear to have the courage to take. How about you, do you have the courage to admit you not capable of doing the job? I guess we'll find out soon, eh?
Regards,
firemillen
Dude is signed until, I believe, 2011!! How crazy is that?
Despite the team's poor record under Millen, a number of high first-round draft picks who were widely considered colossal failures (Charles Rogers, Joey Harrington, and Mike Williams among them), and widespread disappointment among fans, the media, and even some players, Millen received a five-year contract extension from owner William Clay Ford at the start of the 2005 season. Following the team's 3-13 performance in 2006, Ford announced that Millen would be retained as General Manager for at least another season.
Short of asking God for help, we have no hope left.
None.

I can't believe I actually fall for their crap every year and think they changed.
That was an easy prediction. The GB fans behind the Lions bench were chanting, "CFL! CFL! CFL!" and "We Want a Refund!" because the Lions couldn't compete with GB's 2nd and 3rd stringers. How apropos.
Seventeen straight losses in GB.
you, Lions.
you.
Rumor is that Martz is going to be fired. That should solve the problem.
Won't solve . We still have the worst GM and one of the worst owners in sports. They will just hire some dumbass to run the offense. I mean...Millen did hire Marty Mornhinweg.
The last coach the Lions had with a winning record...Bob Ross(5-4) and Gary Moeller(4-3)...the season before Millen was hired. , Moeller may have been the only coach in the last 40 years to have a overall winning record.
Oh well. Its good for me to vent. I don't want to end up shooting squirrels.
Do people finally understand this pain?
I could have started this thread in 2000 and it would still be relevant today.
I will bump this thread every year, because just doesnt change in Lions-land.
Bill Ford, Sr. do the world a favor and die already. Please.
Dude, I would kill for a 9-7 season like in 2000. At least they were compe ive back then.
Plus, Millen wasn't here. Pre-Millen = mediocrity = the good ol' days = sad.
At least I won't be able to watch the next two losses. Think Martz is itching to run up the score on this pathetic Lions defense?
I can commiserate with you....I'm a Dolphins fan......at least your team has been compe ive...the dolphins stunk up the cardinals stadium yesterday.....![]()
