I'm not going to claim to be an expert on politics because I am not but I have been following the current events. I will say this, in Ca the economy is ed up. We have the highest unemployment rate in 12 years. We lead the Nation in Foreclosures, the state is in a budget crisis and have laid off hundreds of state employees and Arnold is threatening to pay all state employees minimum wage. Arnold had the nerve to crack a joke when laying off people. It's nothing to travel down any street and see 2 to 3 abandoned homes. In California, We are a strong supporter of change. We can not afford any more of this. People are losing hope and getting frustrated,.. With desperate times comes desperate measures. It's not about McCain or Obama it's about change.

The Republicans have ed things up, and John McCain, no matter what he says, is a republican. He is not going to change. He is a 72 year old man that is stuck in his ways. He says the economy is strong. In what world??? He is not in touch with the rest of the world.

It's time to take care of home. People are hurting out here and it's obvious that McCain is not the one to make a difference for the better.

McCain is an idiot, but to think Obama will save the day makes you one also.

I can understand anger, but tell me one thing. Why are the Republicans responsible? What specific policies have they passed that are directly related to California's problems. Btw, are republicans in charge of your state legislature?

In Texas we have a healthy economy, but mainly because we are rated as the most friendliest state to conduct business. I would attribute that to our Republican State Legislature.

We too have a Republican State Legislature. We blame Arnold and the republican party. Maybe they're not to blame but we want change. We want a different administration with different ideas.

Yea Lake Show, I worked in the California State Senate for 10 years and I saw my share of legislation that would bust any business. The GOP hasn't pass any decent legislation out of California since Reagan was governor because the Dems have controlled the state senate since 1970 and the Assembly for the same period except for a brief interlude in 1996.

P.S. Lake I did a double take on you statement that Calif. has a Republican Legislature. That my friend is true ignorance. See statement above. REad some histories on Willie Brown and Jesse Unruh.

Well like I said, I do not get into politics much but this year has been totally different from the rest. The state is all ed up right now. I am an employee of the state of California. My position and department has been exempt from any salary decreases. I am blessed but a lot of my friends and co workers are not exempt. Its divide and concur for Arnold right now.

I live in Indiana...a Republican state.
Our economy hasn't been this healthy since Evan Bayh was governor...and we currently have a Republican in office.
The 2 Democrats before Daniels ran this state into the ground.
It's taken 4 years, but our state now has a surplus....one of the few states that can say that.

    Are you serious?

$100 plus oil has helped the Houston economy explode. Billions and billions being invested in refineries, oil exploration & related services, LNG plants near Houston and in Southeast Texas Beaumont/Port Arthur.

Barnett Shale Boom in DFW. Oil & Gas boom carrying the West Texas Midland/Odessa economy & Abilene right now which is in a huge boom period. Wind energy investment really picking up in West Texas as well.

It's all about energy right now in Texas.

Right, and a ton of the service sector growth is spun off from the energy boom.

Oil & Gas companies hiring architects and engineering firms to develop their projects. Developers building more office buildings, hotels, shopping centers, etc because of the increased # of jobs the oil exploration and shale drilling boom all over Texas are creating.

A lot of these jobs are booked as service sector but the energy boom is clearly the primary reason for their creation and existence.

The real major reasons our economy is buckign the national trend are:

    1) Migration to Texas from high cost of living states in the Northeast and California over the past several years

    2) Oil and Gas Boom of the past several years

    3) No real estate bubble collapse: Texans haven't taken it on the chin; we never had the bubble runup or burst that affected most of the USA

The real estate bubble burst is the main reason for the Californian economic struggles. And that has nothing to do with which political party has been in power.

I think McCain is pretty accurate. The fundamentals aren't as gloom and doom as portrayed. People always feel this way and panic during periods of stagnation or recession, but we always recover.

medical, financial, etc.. spun off from the oil. hmmm....Interesting

Don't know why you're so bent on pushing your oil theory.

I'm not bent on pushing it. Just surprised someone would disagree that energy growth is a major reason we have held up better than most.

I do think Medical growth has also been a real boon and projects to help the economy here going forward. Especially as we get more and more retirees who want to settle down here and enjoy the lower cost of living we enjoy.

Lakeshow, Californoia has been ed up for years because somehow the people of your state elect the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Dianne Fienstein, Barbara Boxer, . You don't produce much of your own resources and act like the rest of the nation must give you ours. One thing I am familiar with is the huge amount of energy we send to you from Oregon over the Pacific DC Intertie. Capable of 3.1 giga-watts of electrical transmission, you guys make our electricity prices higher. The [URL=Celilo Converter Station]Celilo Converter Station is located in The Dalles, Oregon a few miles from The Dalles Dam. I used to live in The Dalles, that's why I'm so familiar with this.

I hope you don't think Obama will do any better. It starts at the state level. Stop blaming others.

I guess you really don't keep up with politics. California is mostly democrats in your state government. They are to blame. Not republicans. The California State Assembly has 79 democrats and 32 republicans. The senate has 40 members. Only 15 are republicans. The democrats didn't list how many, so the remaining 25 are all likely democrats, but some may be of a 3rd party.

With majorities of this the historical norm of California, how dare you blame any republican. Including the current Governor who is attempting to get things fixed.

No, I do not agree with many of Arnold's ideas, but he is the best governor California has had in a long time.
