I know many people who could do a better job than Larry king but then it wouldn't be larry king anymore.would it?

Actually, Jay came out on espn w/chris duel. He told some stories, addressed his problems at oai and is now working in the financial industry as I think a broker. I think it was partly his decision to stay in SA and obviously his poor reputation may have cost him his radio career. He did say that he received a few offers, but it never seemed to be the right time for what its worth. As far as schoenig is concerned, I'm sure he has won some awards, I just never warmed up to his style of play by play. I know alot of people like him, it just seems just as many people don't like him as a play by play guy. Alot of people disliked Jay, but very few made any negative comments about his play by play, in fact most was positive, it was his radio show and personality that got in his way and received the negative label. I don't know, has Pop ever said anything positive about Bill?
I like Shoening.
I think he does a great job and I listen to him in 75 to 77 games a years. The others I can see here on ESPN
I work with Jay now at a financial firm here in SA. Suffice it to say his not being in radio is a choice he made.
Be sure to tell him a lot of Spurs fans loved his play by play and miss him.

Clear Channel did what it always does: brought in a guy from out-of-town who has no concept of the San Antonio culture. Bill Schoening is efficient, but utterly unremarkable and unmemorable. Jay Howard was, and is, infinitely talented and memorable.

And why does he need to have a concept of San Antonio culture? It's basketball. Last time I checked basketball is pretty much the same in San Antonio as it is in Austin, or even Europe.
That shows your new as a Spurs fan, poeple down here don't look at the Spurs as just another NBA team, they look at them as Family.
Knowing this city is part of knowing the spurs, not just now but from the 80s.
David Robinson is like a big brother to many poeple here in san Antonio.
He loves San Antonio and has loyalty unlike your Kevin Garnetts and Allen Iversons of today.

Bill Shoening is a personal friend of mine and you used tampons of fans that think he sucks just don't listen. Did you know he's one of the only broadcasters to do play by play AND color commentary in the NBA? He doesn't need to lay his shoulder on ex-players and coaches to provide fantastic commentary.
Now, with that said-Jay Howard was among my favorite voices of all time, but I don't know him as a person, and I just happen to think Bill is better. No slip ups, not a single misquote without correcting himself soon after.
