    Francis Still Hoping To Return

    Sep 19, 2008 4:29 PM EST
Steve Francis has become a forgotten man throughout much of the NBA, but the folks in Houston hope he can still return to form.

"I'm not going to sit here and say I'm 100% because I'm not," said Francis. "I still have a ways to go. It's going to be a tough process, but I'm willing to sacrifice. Even if I don't start the season, I know within the next three or four weeks I'll be 100%. I don't want to go out there if I'm not 100% and possibly re-injure myself."

It'll be great to see him return to his old form, or even close to his old form will be nice.

Francis' old form was one of the worst PGs in history. I hope he does return to form.

Exaggerate much? When he was right, Francis was one of the more explosive scorers in the league and could fill up the stat sheet from the point guard position. He was and never was going to be a true point guard. But, he was a great player before he was Knicked up.

Francis was also a horrible ball hog who made worse decisions than any other PG I can think of who got significant minutes. I remember a Spurs Rockets game back in the day where Francis had the ball down 3 in the last 15-20 seconds of the game, and he just dribbled out the clock and then shot a 2.

That settles it. I guess he must be one of the worst PGs in history.

He's a ballhog, a PG with a Sg's mentality, but I would'nt call him one of the worst PGs in history. Back in Orlando he showed glimpses of being a great player, but his at ude on the floor prevented him from becoming the Stevie-Franchise he wanted to be.

Francis was a great player. He had his shortcomings with the dribbling but he was an athletic freak. An All-Star who could light it up when he wanted to. But as for his return from this knee injury. I don't expect him to show anything till after the All-Star Break. I wouldn't even let him come off the injured list until the docs clear him.

I'd take almost any PG in the league over a 100% healthy Francis. The guy just kills his team's offense with the ballhogging and bad shot selection.

Yeah but who would you rather have on your team. Healthy Francis or a healthy Marbury?

Actually, now that I think about it. Spurs could still get Starbury!

NY didn't even need to make that choice and look what happened to them.

Franchise will never be anything in the league again because he wasn't even all that when healthy, and he'll never be healthy again. Chronic " jumper's knee " coupled with multiple surgeries paints an ugly picture for his future. You can survive with diminished physical abilities if you're an unselfish team guy, but unfortunately, that's a concept that's way beyond his understanding.

Francis' return would just be extra gravy on the side for the Rockets. We don't need him really, but his addition wouldn't hurt. Let him rest until 2009, or after the All-Star break. We'll see then.

Marbury actually took teams to the playoffs.

    Francis has never done .

    I'd take a 20% Marbury over a 100% Francis.

If he is healthy, he just might be the best backup PG in the league, but at the same time, he wont be happy coming off that bench behind Rafer... should be an exciting season for the Rocks.
Why wouldn't he? He did last season when he was in games.

What is surprising about Francis is that he looks done while he is only 31 years old. It's also the same thing with Magloire who is 30 years old.

90% of the reason Francis was ever good to begin with was due to his elite athleticism. That athleticism is gone.
