You can only hope biatch!
Last year. Summer 2007.
You can only hope biatch!
Yeah, they do. And it's frustrating and hard to understand and we kicked it around here with Scola until...damn, we're still kicking that around here occasionally.
I don't feel competent to second guess an organization that's won 4 les in the last decade. I do better having faith that they know what they're doing and hoping it will all work out.
It's what works for me. I like the conversations, and I learn from them, but I have to trust the FO knows what they're doing even if I don't get it.
I Like Dragic and I like how motivated he is. I hope he will adapt to the NBA well and can make a decent career over there. I still think he should have maybe waited another year to be better prepared, but if the Suns front office doesn't up his role/expectations he should be fine.
I expect him to be better in his second NBA season.
Out of curiosity, what makes anyone think the Spurs would have picked Dragic for themselves? Do some of you realize that teams can't trade picks? The Mavericks didn't want Robert Traylor, they wanted Dirk. They'd have picked Dirk, but they got an extra pick to take a player for someone else. The Spurs did the same thing. It's pretty clear to me that the Spurs didn't want Dragic, or it would have taken more than a second round pick to keep them from letting him go to the Suns.

damn......he is on suns. but its alright, we should wish him well
I have never seen you cuss before...That is not very lady/man like!
Admittedly, I don't know who the this guy is. I don't watch European basketball, mainly because it sucks compared to the NBA. Back to the matter at hand, I went looking for video of this guy. Suffice it to say, the videos I saw from workouts and otherwise were very impressive. From what I remember looking at summer league stats, Hairston was absolute trash This looks like another imminent -up by the Spurs front office. At this point, I'm not even really made angry by their terrible decisions, I come to expect them.
that's unfortunately right and it's what makes this move another questionable decision. Dragic has quite some flaws, but he does have the potential to develop into a Bruce Bowen type PG defender. his style, intensity and toughness is right there.
it's not that he defended just Tony well, he did it with many other players.
however, I also expect the Suns to fall apart this season, so it maybe won't matter that much, if Dragic in fact can slow Tony.
IF THE SPURS WOULD DRAFT HIM HE WOULD NOT COME OVER!
Spurs wouldnt invest enough $$, spurs wouldnt promis him anything so he would not go thorugh all the hassle to come over.
Until proven (by him) otherwise he is already my favourite player in the NBA. (allthough in a team i hate)
BTW, Dragic stills say this is all lie.
it's feeling like another mistake, in the style of Scola mistake and the Scola mistake cost us a championship.
i'm feeling for some time that R.C Buford has lost it, and every move that he made in the last couple of years was wrong!
Agreed just like the Spurs grab Kurt as a Suns stopper. Kurt did a great job against the Suns. Then imo was to small to help much after. And you dont stop TP. Only Pop and TP stop TP.
Dragic has all the tools to be succesful if he stays healthy and works hard.
The only thing that goes against him he is not a gifted shooter; but neither was TP.
Suns are done and Dragic is nothing special.

That's pretty much your boilerplate post, so why wouldn't you say it? Step up your game. This Drama Queen got to go. You because we drafted two Tau players who decided to stay longer, and then you because we decide not to get burned a 3rd time?
Rockets can't even get past the first round.
Without 1 of the 2 losses to the Rockets last year (ironically, Matt Bonner missed the buzzer beater in the 2nd loss), the Spurs could have had the #1 seed and could have avoided sleeping in New Orleans before the WCF. Also with the #1 and HCA, Spurs would have been in San Antonio waiting for the Lakers to arrive. Who knows if the Lakers could have made that great 20 point comeback in SA.
Oh damn, more coulda/woulda/shoulda....

Bonner has never made a basket in the closing minutes of a close basketball game his entire time with the Spurs, and that's not an exaggeration.
A couple of points on this Dragic situation:
#1. If the Spurs valued Dragic moreso than Hill (and we don't have proof of that), they should've drafted and retained him for themselves. We may never know what their scouting reports were on the guy.
#2. If the Spurs did not value Dragic as much as the Suns, then perhaps they should've held out for a #1 pick in next year's draft. Keep in mind, the Spurs gave away their '09 pick to the Sonic in the KT trade.
#3. Keeping with the previous point, why fortify a rival? Unless it's a deal you absolutely can't refuse, I would think twice about doing deals with teams for which the Spurs have a fierce rivalry with. If a 2nd pick was the going rate for doing the Dragic deal with any ordinary team, then the price for a rival, like the Suns, would have to be a 1st round pick.
The scenario that would be the worst possible nightmare for all us Spurs fans would be, Dragic turns out to be a player for the Suns and Hairston turns out to be a bust. Or worst yet, the Spurs don't give Hairston a chance to develop, cut him, and he goes elsewhere and turns into a player. Either of these scenarios, my friends, will be Scola Folly - the Sequel.
The Spurs have already fortified Houston with the Scola trade. Could this one backfire as well?

The Suns can't trade their 09 first rounder because they gave up the 2010 in the Kurt Thomas trade, because teams can't trade away consecutive first round picks. Best the Suns can do in any trade is a 2012 first.
If that is the case, what's wrong with this picture? The Spurs elect to sign Salim Stoudamire, an offensive-only player, while the Suns draft a defensive-minded PG, courtesy of a trade with the Spurs.
Now which team is the one that values defense?
That's the problem. Over the past 10 years, the Spurs have employed a draft strategy of "all-Euro, all the time". They've usually committed nearly all their resources into this strategy. The problem in doing so is that the club has ocassionally passed over solid, young, domestic talent. The best strategy is TAKE THE BEST PLAYER on your board, when it's your turn to pick - PERIOD.
