I know someone who can get you a new computer

Yesterday I opened up "word" to type a proposal and my task bar was gone (including the "file, edit, view, etc, at the top) and my default settings had changed...All I could see was the do ent itself...I could type the do ent but couldn't do anything with it...I've done the usual...restart, etc. but it's still screwed up...
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

did you right click on the top of the task bar to see a drop down menu of bars available?
right clicking just gives me cut, copy, past, fonts, paragraph, bullets, close...in separate windows if I click them, but nothing about task bar...
I've done that with Windows' task bar. Is it just in Word?
Yes...the other office applications still have the task bar and the rest of the stuff at the top..
if you hit the Alt key... do the menu options appear again?
the only thing I can think is that maybe the taskbar were dragged or something. There's 2 parallel lines that you can grab to drag the taskbar. I'm not sure how to explain it better.
Try deleting Normal.dot (do a search for it), close Word first of course.
It will be rebuilt next time you start Word.
I know this works for a similar issue with Excel. In Excel you delete the "normal.dot" equivalent to restore the default settings (including toolbars).
can you post a screen shot?
sounds like you might be in full screen. Try pressing Alt+V then "U" to take you out of full screen. Deleting normal.dot may do it to but you will lose any custom settings you had.
Normal.dot can be found in C:\Do ents and settings\"profile"\application data\microsoft\templates
"profile" is whatever your computer login is.
also, application data is a hidden folder. You will need to click on Tools > Folder Options > click on the View Tab > select the option for show hidden files and folders.
Did you add Microsoft fluid to the hard drive ?
open word
hit the print screen button
open the windows paint program
click "edit" then "paste"
save it
post it
I don't have any buttons.
"print screen" button is on your keyboard.
do you mean the print screen button? its on your keyboard
i dont know if you have full screen on in word. that will take everything away and leave a white screen with a cursor to type. if you move the mouse cursor all the way to the top of the screen, it should give you a menu bar with "file" "edit" etc etc. you should then be able to click "view" then "full screen" to turn it off. if it isnt that, i have no idea what the problem is
Save your recent work to floppy or CD and restore PC to Monday.
Did you try to delete Normal.dot?
CC, with all the time you have invested in this so far, you could have hopped on a horse, headed into town, picked up a new machine at the ol' general store, and headed back out to the ranch, set up and been done! You earn like $700/hr right? Big savings.
i dont know why your menu bar is missing. that is strange. sorry i cant help!
just cllck the far left button with the 3 lines that's right above "Page 1" located right above the Start button.
Thats where I am at now...I clicked all the buttons...the screen look changed but I didn't get anything back...
