Senator Richard Shelby, the ranking Republican on the Banking Committee just said on The Rachel Maddow Show that he hadn't heard from John McCain all week.

Today we also had John McCain's own revelation that he hadn't read the Paulson plan as late as yesterday.

Does it really sound as if the bailout plan is his top concern right now?

    He was busy formulating this

KATIE COURIC: And, Bob, I understand that John McCain actually floated an alternative plan. What can you tell us about that?

BOB ORR We're told at the White House Senator McCain offered an alternative plan that would include fewer regulations and more corporate tax breaks for businesses, kind of a private solution. But we're also told those ideas angered and surprised Democrats like banking chairman Chris Dodd who now says he thinks the White House summit was more of a political stunt for McCain.

Do you contribute anything to a discussion other than Republican talking points? Maybe you should ask McCain how many votes he's missed in the 110th congress. I'll give you a hint. It's way more than Obama.

    Back on topic:

I hear Dodd isn't the only one who isn't happy about McCain's proposal.

McCain hasn't voted in the Senate since April.

    Do they need him?

Hmm, let's see, tax breaks for corporations to buy the Wall Street firms at what the market dictates as market value. Lot more capitalistic than the financial socialism the bailout plan is based on.

So why didn't McCain fly into DC earlier and present his plan in congress while they were discussing it?

    Where is Obama's plan?
Is it not the one that was agreed to in principal before McCain tried to derail it?

What do you mean? Obama never stated any opposition to the bailout in general principal, he just wanted more oversight and accountability than Bush proposed. So, please produce evidence of his opposition to the general idea of the bailout or just be content in being wrong.

McCain came back to DC to get involved in the process. There was no deal and liberal press is trying to hang it on him that it failed. Obama said they didn't need him and he was staying in Florida. Who cares the most?

Didn't you hear? He suspended his campaign...which means he had to do a few interviews, have a few photo-ops, tell Palin to go play with her dolls, the usual.

McCain stayed in New York while the process happened in congress. He showed up later for the photo op.

You're wrong. The deal was in place before McCain got back to DC. They discussed it this morning in congress. Then they had their little meeting in the White House. Somewhere in there the House Republicans came back and said they wouldn't even negotiate on the bill that was thought to have been the final one. They wanted NEW things in the bill and it seems as though McCain has had some influence on Lindsey Graham to have Graham oppose the bill that the Bush Administration and the house democrats have put forth. The House Republicans are putting a hold to discussions over what Paulson himself said, "won't work". It's all happening pretty fast but it seems as though the Republicans are refusing to sit down and discuss.

McCain hadn't even read the Bush proposal.

Really, why didn't McCain show up in the meetings this morning after declaring an emergency?

I apologize for characterizing the Republicans' plan as McCain's plan. He has nothing to do with it.

Probably not but Barney Frank made it seem like McCain said something to Lindsey Graham that got Graham to do a 180.

Um I thought they just left. Where did you see this?

The Democrats or the Republicans are writing their own bail out bill. How much of the Bush proposal do you think they are using. McCain was briefed on the proposal. If they reach an agreement McCain will be at the debate. He does not need to study!

They just stopped meeting --will come back tomorrow. FOXNEWS--
