Obama's Goals
- Make McCain get pissed off. Somehow make him blow his top without going over the top. Don't gamble too much with this.
-Cut the answers shorter and too the point. I like the fact that you know your , but the rest of the Americans don't.
-Score some zingers! Make the audience laugh if possible. Be as affiable as possible.
-Most importantly - if you do NONE of the above, do not burn an American flag, praise Alah, or take a dump on a manger set. Do this and you should be fine.
McCain's Goals
-Keep your temper under control. I don't care if Obama says your mother sucked his , don't lose it.
I don't know what else McCain needs to do really, and I'm biased anyway so someone else feel free.
McCain's goals:
- Keep focus on foreign policy, where your experience far outweighs Obama's.
- Try to keep 'POW' mentions under five.
- Throw in a 'well, there you go again' when Obama relates a canard you can easily disprove. The old guard 'pubs will love it.
Bring it on.
Oh oh oh, whats the overunder on POW mentions? I don't think he will bring it up much, so I'm going to set the line low at 3.5.

Not me. I've been going back and forth. It's a tough, tough decision. It may take all four debates before I've truly decided.

Obama's remark about "not wanting his daughters to be punished with a baby" was a major strike against him in my mind.
However, I am not sold on McCain. His time as POW is to his credit, but that was then and I need to know what sort of man he is now.
I am really eager for these debates because the scripts are gone and I feel like this is my first real chance to get to know the candidates.
I am giving them both a blank slate. Someone needs to earn my vote.

I think McCain needs to address the current economic situation and show the public that he has a complete grasp of the issues and has solutions for them.
I think Obama needs to spend some time shoring up his perceived foreign policy experience deficit. It's a national security debate, but the economy may dominate.

Not true. I'm still trying to decide whether to continue sending Obama money like I have been or whether start sending him lots of money. It's a tough, tough decision.

It'll be economic based, and Obama will win it, because hes gonna say what the public wants to hear.
You see, and that could sway my decision in this election.
I wonder if they'll actually get McCain to commit to a stance ont he bailout. I think they'lll start directly on teh economy then get to the topic the debate was supposed to be.

I would think that Lehrer would try to get that out of McCain. The media kept mentioning McCain's reluctance to reveal his position today. I don't see how Lehrer wouldn't explore that issue.
I wonder what kind of pressure these moderators are under from their peers to ask the questions that are lingering in the media-at-large. In other words, if Lehrer doesn't get in to some of these issues, will Bob Schieffer or Tom Brokaw think less of him? And, if so, does Lehrer care enough to let it determine the questions he asks?

Whatever his politics -- and I don't know them -- I don't think Jim Lehrer is one to be pushed around by others in the media or, quite frankly, much care what they think.
BTW the CNN HD feed sounds pretty awesome. They're going to have a few features that seem neat.

I hate pundits for the most part, but I love the technology these guys use. The maps with the breakdowns and the vast amount of information they are able to show at a moments notice is awesome.
I'm looking forward to the reports from Spin Alley telling me who won the debate. I'll bet we'll have some conflicting reports.....
They apparently didn't get the memo McCain won. They're so behind.
