Then why didn't the Repugs do anything about it? They had dominant control of the Exec and Legislative branches.
McMakesUpRandom 's campaign manager, a hard core Repug insider, was paid by F&F to stop regulators from gettting into F&F.
Looks like some folks saw it coming (Republicans).

Nationalized home care == fail
Anyone for nationalized health car?
Daniel Mudd.
That dirty mother a.
Fannie and Freddie will greet us as liberators.
It would have been nice had the Republicans done something about it while they controlled every branch of government.
^^ Is it true there is a YouTube avail that has Bush Oil n War Jr saying in 2002 how the criteria for loans needs to be greatly lowered so minorities and such can get the same housing the rest of the rich folk have? (paraphrased)
So by catering to the weak, not only does it just make the rich richer, it crashes the country.
Lesson learned for the government.

Hiding the bad debt to the point we still don't know how bad it is crashed the country.
You learned nothing.
All in the name of helping the minorities my man. It was a of a political correctness shield.
The bad debt was not hidden in the name of helping minorities.
Minor details. Whatever it takes to get people in nice homes.
Vote for me.
It's a major factor.
Listen. Let the GSEs worry about that money talk. You deserve a nice home in a nice neighborhood.
Don't forget to register early. God Bless.
Listen, blame the poor for all our problems. You deserve a nice class war.
Sarah Palin is cute.
Deja vu alert! This apparently needs to be repeated as many times as necessary. A big reason why the 2005 bill failed was that Democrats wanted an affordable housing provision and the Republicans didn't. And there was a 2007 bill that the Senate Republicans killed because of the affordable housing provision.

To sum: The differences between the extra provisions that the parties did or did not want resulted in not passing the main provision of stronger regulation on Freddie and Fannie. By not compromising, both parties made it worse.
I like how they are "friends"....code for paid off.
I really was going to vote for Obama, now I am going to vote for Barr.
1. Who's blaming the poor? I'm merely stating that the rich used the helping of the poor as an excuse to make even more money.
2. Bring it the on I guess? I'm a broke college kid so I'll just play the fence.
3. Yes, she is.
it's well known you need 60 seats in the senate to get anything passed. Plus, there were plenty of republicans that sided with Dems on the issue. Enough blame to go around, but I don't mind the mistake because of the intent. Nobody gets it right 100% of the time, but failing while trying to do a good deed is ok in my book. Live and learn.
Hopefully both parties will turn their attention to the ticking timebomb that is Medicare. Medicare will make subprime look like a cold.
