I don't think most people realize how big a 5+ point margin in the national polls is going to be to overcome for McCain at this point int he election season.
True, but I'm anticipating a big swiftboat style attack on Obama just before the election. It may not put McCain over the top, but it could close the gap considerably.
A lot of people were claiming that Obama would need a 7 point+ lead to overcome the closet racists. I'm not kidding. Pundits were saying how people were/are too ashamed to admit they won't vote for Obama because he's black. It would artificially inflate Obama's numbers until election day arrives. Then those people will have the privacy of a booth to be racist. It's ridiculous in my opinion.
Doubt it'd be as workable as it was on Kerry. Kerry was a good man but never really was able to confront those swiftboat and the other BS attacks on him, which cost him. Obama has yet to back down from attacks and the Palin effect has utterly made the GOP into a mainstream media joke, moreso than before... about time.
I wouldn't put anything behind GOP and dirty politics, though.

I told you straight up that I knew once he selected her it was over. I didn't anticipate the way she'd motivate the base, but her bubble has gone beyond bursting and she's a net negative to McCain.

What's ignorant is expecting Palin to be an expert on certain issues. She's not being brought in becuase she already has all the answers, she's being brought in because because she has a record of reform and going after her own party. It's entirely character driven...the one bit of knowledge she is supposed to bringing an expertise on is Energy.
