Bynum has 2-3 inches and at least 40 pounds on Howard at this point. I doubt Bynum will ever be that "cut" though.
He's got a bum knee too...

Alot of reports are saying he's not showing any ill effects. He's never had a problem with that knee before. I'm sure that's why the Lakers are even considering that kind of money.

Alot of people said Amare had a bum knee too and his was a much more severe injury.

I hope both of these young guns stay healthy. It would be bad for the league if they got hurt. The league needs more bigs.

Looks like the Lakers are close to signing Bynum to a long term contract. I'm guessing since it's pre-season, they're banking that Bynum will be taking the $78 million instead of the $88 million his agent is asking for.

Overheard: Andrew Bynum could be the $88 million dollar man

    http://lakerforums.com/2008/09/rumor...on-dollar-man/

A source has reported that Andrew Bynum’s agent, David Lee, is trying to get an $88 million dollar deal on the table with the Lakers. This is up from a reported $80 million dollar deal before. Exact terms of the contract are not known but it is believed to be a 5 year deal.

It’s been old news that Bynum was looking for the Max but this is pushing the envelope. Oddly enough, last year, Bynum was quoted as saying that he’d be fine without getting the max, the power of agents I suppose.

What isn’t old news is that the Lakers are willing to meet Bynumite close to the max at the $78 million mark and they’re ready to make a deal before the season starts. The source also said that Andrew is looking “phenomenal” in the pre-pre season workouts with no apparent lingering effects of the surgery. In fact, Bynum looks much stronger than he was last year.

Lakers GM, Mitch Kupchak has made it no secret that Bynum is the future of the Lakers and he’ll do whatever it takes to sign him. If you’ve been watching Bynum and witnessed his quantum improvement, you can see Kupchak ain’t foolin’ around.
He plays good for not even half a year and he's demanding this kind of money? He's out of his fricken mind!

Talk about major luxury tax time. The Lakers will have 64 million on the books next year with only 7 players under contract. If the extend Bynum to this contract they will be well over luxury tax with only 7 players.

Good thing the Lakers have an owner thats willing to pay the luxury tax.

And the CBA is up in 2010. So things could change considering the Euro rage recently.

It's called market value. He's only going to get better, which is obvious if you actually watched him play. The Lakers see him everday in practice so the front office wouldn't lay down that kind of money if they didn't think he had any upside.

Bynum looks like a cross between Chris Webber and Shaq. Which means he's overpaid and crys a lot.

Everybody here has seen him play, as most people here i'm certainly not impressed.
This might be his breakout year though. And after seeing Arenas get massively overpaid, I won't be surprised if Bynum gets that 78/88 mil.

He already had his breakout year and freak injury stole it away. You should know something about injuries with T-Quit and Yao.

that... I wouldnt give him 88 for 5 years. Lebron didnt even get that deal, neither did Kobe for that matter during that stage of their careers.
He hasn't proven he can be consistant or stay healthy. Those numbers are crazy for him right now
