Breaking news: More money wasted on something everybody already knew!
Not ripping on you, RG. I just found it funny. Of course more family is good for kids. That's plain old common sense.

SYDNEY (Reuters Life!) - Grandparents play a critical role in their grandchildren's lives, helping boost their development even through simple activities such as reading to them or going shopping together, an Australian study said.
The four-year government-funded study, released on Tuesday, measured children's physical, learning and cognitive development, in addition to social and emotional functioning.
It showed that children aged from 3 to 19 months had higher learning scores if they were cared for by family and friends -- including grandparents -- as well as their parents.
"This new study demonstrates just what a critical role grandparents play in the development of children," Federal Families, Housing and Community Services Minister Jenny Macklin was quoted by Australian media as saying.
"We know from this study how important it is to a child's development to ... spend as much time as possible every day reading and spending time playing with children," she said.
The "Growing up in Australia" report is the first comprehensive national study of Australian children over time, Macklin said. More than 10,000 families with children took part in the study, which started in 2004.

Unfortunately, common sense is something which seems to be missing from a large portion of our society.
If people would use more common sense then these studies wouldn't be needed.
yeah, it's pretty much the more adults that spend time caring for and helping raise a kid, the better off the kid is....It showed that children aged from 3 to 19 months had higher learning scores if they were cared for by family and friends -- including grandparents -- as well as their parents.
I may be alone in thinking this, but I'm guessing a kid left out in the woods to raise him/herself will probably have lower IQ scores than those of a kid that has grandparents/aunts/uncles helping to raise him/her.
I highly doubt that. I say throw them out there and if they make it back that kid becomes the next president.
Respectufully:
I wouldn't call it "wasted".
There is a difference between "thought was right" and "knew".
Often some things that are "common wisdom" turn out to be patently false or not supported by actual evidence or data.
That is why studies like this get funded. It is always better to make policy based on actual data than what "everybody knows", because sometimes what "everybody knows" is flat out wrong.
on the flip side......xray is probably a grandparent.
read the article about emissions target 90% by 2050...i hate the bag who recommended these schemes....
