    McCain shows his temperment.

    October 2, 2008
A Second of Drama on the Senate Floor
By JEFF ZELENY and MICHAEL COOPER

WASHINGTON — It was Senator Barack Obama who crossed the aisle.

On Wednesday evening, as the senators gathered to vote on the $700 billion financial rescue package, Mr. Obama, Democrat of Illinois, walked over to the Republican side of the chamber to extend a greeting to Senator John McCain of Arizona.

While it took Mr. Obama several seconds to make his way over to Mr. McCain, the actual handshake lasted barely a second, as Mr. McCain responded with a chilly look, a turn of his head and a brief return handshake.

The moment provided a rare element of drama in an otherwise routine evening of votes. It was a curious sight on Capitol Hill, the second time in less than a week that the presidential candidates crossed paths in Washington over deliberations on the package intended to stabilize the nation’s financial system.

Mr. Obama, who first arrived on the Senate floor at 5 p.m., presented his argument in favor of the legislation in a 13-minute speech.

When Mr. McCain arrived shortly before 8 p.m., he did not join other Republicans in addressing the Senate. Senate aides said Mr. McCain did not want to be preceded or followed by Democratic senators, so he chose not to offer remarks on the bill.

As Mr. Obama worked the floor of the Senate, holding a long conversation with Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Democrat of New York and walking around to greet other colleagues, Mr. McCain largely stayed near his seat.

Republican senators wandered by to say o, before he left from the chamber.

Is this McCain's way of reaching across the aisle?
The man has some serious issues.

Petty as it may seem, it's like this (particularly as it was on display in the debate) that will hurt McCain with women voters since they are generally more attuned to the relation between temperament and body language.

    Bingo!

But this is not only about McCain vs. Obama- he was not engaging with anyone nor was he even willing to speak about the bill because he did not want to talk before or after a Democrat! What??

The weirdest part is they both voted for it. It was not this was some partisan thing that they were on opposite sides. And Obama making the effort to go and greet him is what people like about Obama.

I saw McCain on Fox this morning and he admitted that he just doesn't respect Obama as presidential but he did give him praise for running an excellent campaign.

He's running Pappa Bush's campaign against Clinton (those Bozo's) now. Great. That one turned out great for Bush.

I also think McCain probably suffers the lingering effects of a gargantuan case of PTSD; and from a time when no one knew there was such a thing. No matter what happens, he'll always be a man in a box.

McCain reminds me of a creepy Jack Palance. I love when he tries to get excited and gives that creepy smile and does that thing with his hands and fingers. Obama does some weird things too, but McCain's stick out to me more. He looks like a person that should have silver fillings in all his teeth and an eye patch

If he starts doing push-ups on one arm during the second debate he's got my vote.

Uh...if someone locks you up for 5 years, tortures you, breaks bones repeatedly, you might just develop an "edgy" side too.

Republicans avoided him because republicans don't really like McCain. Clinton said McCain would get the nomination because he was the only one that could possibly win this year but that's not true. McCain got the nomination because republicans always nominate a guy who doesn't have full use of his arms when they know they are going to lose.

    It's just a joke.

don't want that in the WH. So his POW experience disqualifies him from the WH.

I think you're going to change your mind after Ahmadinejad and Putin size up Obama. Putin sees an opportunity to rebuild the Soviet Empire and he's found a friend in Iran. Obama is just going to give them both more confidence. Problem with the left is they actually think they can just talk these guys into being nice. Just like they think serial killers just needed a good hug when they were little.

    Any doubts?

McCain has worked on many more bipartisan projects in the Senate than the Great Uniter.

, if McCain shook his hand for more than a second there'd probably be an article out saying that McCain was trying to break his hand or some stupid crap like that.

I guess in McCain's mind that justifies treating him without respect in the Senate.

Iran ain't gonna do , esp if they ever get nukes. Using a nuke would be instant suicide.

They're busy allying with Sadr and Maliki Shiites, and taking over political/social control of Iraq, thanks to dubya's bogus war-for-oil.

Russia really has no industrial base still, just a bunch of money from oil and gas prices. Resource rich, industry poor.

well they are in compe ion with eachother. I am tired of seeing Obama trying to be polite. Mccain already said he doesn't respect you! I hope in the next debate Obama makes no eye contact with him. It was kind of hard watching him try to speak to Mccain, while Mccain wouldnt' even look at him. maybe they can be friends after the election.
