    Biggest load of crap ever...if they don't clearly mark themselves as an enemy army, the Geneva Convention isn't supposed to apply to them. Revisionism at it's finest...

    If they want to mark themselves clearly as enemy combatants so we can exterminate them I am all for the survivors getting the protections of the Geneva Convention...

    If they want to masquerade as civilians, deliberately putting true civilians at risk, and in some cases directly targeting them...I am for inflicting as much pain and suffering upon them as is humanly possible, and then executing them.

    I am in favor of video taping it just so they'll know exactly what happens to enemy combatants that refuse to clearly mark themselves.

    The Geneva Convention was never intended to protect spies or guerillas. It was meant to protect those that fight according to a certain set of rules.
    You should be a lobbyist the way you spin every single thing you say in this forum. If you advocate torturing others, then you advocate your own being tortured by others. I doubt you think McCain being tortured was justified, and I hope no one here does either.

    Um...McCain was clearly marked as an enemy combatant and he was an official party of the conflict.

    I didn't spin anything...

    Article 4 of the Geneva Convention:

    A. Prisoners of war, in the sense of the present Convention, are persons belonging to one of the following categories, who have fallen into the power of the enemy:

    1. Members of the armed forces of a Party to the conflict as well as members of militias or volunteer corps forming part of such armed forces.

    2. Members of other militias and members of other volunteer corps, including those of organized resistance movements, belonging to a Party to the conflict and operating in or outside their own territory, even if this territory is occupied, provided that such militias or volunteer corps, including such organized resistance movements, fulfil the following conditions:

    (a) That of being commanded by a person responsible for his subordinates;

    (b) That of having a fixed distinctive sign recognizable at a distance;

    (c) That of carrying arms openly;

    (d) That of conducting their operations in accordance with the laws and customs of war.

    3. Members of regular armed forces who profess allegiance to a government or an authority not recognized by the Detaining Power.

    4. Persons who accompany the armed forces without actually being members thereof, such as civilian members of military aircraft crews, war correspondents, supply contractors, members of labour units or of services responsible for the welfare of the armed forces, provided that they have received authorization from the armed forces which they accompany, who shall provide them for that purpose with an iden y card similar to the annexed model.

    5. Members of crews, including masters, pilots and apprentices, of the merchant marine and the crews of civil aircraft of the Parties to the conflict, who do not benefit by more favourable treatment under any other provisions of international law.

    6. Inhabitants of a non-occupied territory, who on the approach of the enemy spontaneously take up arms to resist the invading forces, without having had time to form themselves into regular armed units, provided they carry arms openly and respect the laws and customs of war.

    B. The following shall likewise be treated as prisoners of war under the present Convention:

    1. Persons belonging, or having belonged, to the armed forces of the occupied country, if the occupying Power considers it necessary by reason of such allegiance to intern them, even though it has originally liberated them while hostilities were going on outside the territory it occupies, in particular where such persons have made an unsuccessful attempt to rejoin the armed forces to which they belong and which are engaged in combat, or where they fail to comply with a summons made to them with a view to internment.

    2. The persons belonging to one of the categories enumerated in the present Article, who have been received by neutral or non-belligerent Powers on their territory and whom these Powers are required to intern under international law, without prejudice to any more favourable treatment which these Powers may choose to give and with the exception of Articles 8, 10, 15, 30, fifth paragraph, 58-67, 92, 126 and, where diplomatic relations exist between the Parties to the conflict and the neutral or non-belligerent Power concerned, those Articles concerning the Protecting Power. Where such diplomatic relations exist, the Parties to a conflict on whom these persons depend shall be allowed to perform towards them the functions of a Protecting Power as provided in the present Convention, without prejudice to the functions which these Parties normally exercise in conformity with diplomatic and consular usage and treaties.

    C. This Article shall in no way affect the status of medical personnel and chaplains as provided for in Article 33 of the present Convention.

    PS: John McCain was

    A. A member of an official party to the conflict.

    B. Clearly marked as an enemy combatant by the plane and uniform he was wearing.

    BTW, if you actually want to know why the Iraq War isn't an illegal occupation...be sure to let me know. You might be surprised to find out the truth.

    whottt never ceases to amaze me. As a democrat and a veteran the Geneva Convention must always be followed under all cir stances. Whether they dressed as civilians or not it doesn't matter. Once they are captured they become POW's, whether the Bush Administration believes it or not. Denouncing protection under the Geneva Convention over technicalities is dangerous and puts American soldiers lives at risk. Something I am glad McCain agrees with Democrats in. Good to see that this bull torture of "enemy combatants" will be put to an end no matter who wins this election.

    Yes they broke the treaty so the war is not illegal. What's illegal is the fact that they lied to the public to sell their war. WMD's ring a bell??

    It's not going to be put to an end...it'll just be American troops completely adhering to the tenets of the Geneva Convention that are being tortured and murdered then...

    And you? You'll be silent about it.

    Actually their was a treaty about having to let inspectors have full view of their Nuclear program.

    Would you like me to show you a list of the politicians claiming Saddam had WMD before Bush was even in office?
    I remember Colin Powell in front of the UN. I saw it on T.V. Microfilm and phone taps and all. So again where are the WMD's that the Bush Administration knew so much about.

    And it was news to me that Democrats and liberals don't serve in the military. Or that states like Cali and New York don't have veterans. Very insightful.

    ^^^^ Starting to get it.

    Here's a list of whottt's idiots:

    1. The British thinking they were so superior to those backwards Colonists.

    2. The Azteks that welcomed all those white people with the nifty trinkets.

    Stupid s...

    And nothing has changed...

    The British still think they're superior to everyone.

    And the decendants of the Azteks still don't know a ing enemy when they see one.

    Actually their was a treaty about having to let inspectors have full view of their Nuclear program.
    Not with the US there wasn't. Not that Saddam's actions wouldn't have broken any such treaty a dozen times over anyway.

    I remember Colin Powell in front of the UN. I saw it on T.V. Microfilm and phone taps and all. So again where are the WMD's that the Bush Administration knew so much about.

    A. They didn't need a justification to go into Iraq.
