What don't we "get?" I'm just really curious. What makes her qualified to be President? What did I miss in those Couric and Gibson interviews that demonstrated she has a clue? Why can't she make herself available to the press like a normal VP candidate? Exactly. It would be one thing to take potshots at her because of her daughter's pregnancy and dig around in her family's bedrooms. That to me is the only equivalent for using racism to demean Obama and his candidacy. Certainly there have been people here and there on blogs who have done exactly that, but it's not coming from the Obama campaign. I know you said you feel that you and your fellow Middle Easterners have been treated unfairly under W but what exactly does Obama propose to do differently? Oh, I don't think Obama is a saint, and I am a bit troubled by the cult of personality that has sprung up around him. I guess when I say that Obama is a decent guy, I think of him the same way as Jimmy Carter, he's about as humane as it gets in national politics. Carter was probably sincere in his religious beliefs and he's done a of a lot of good since leaving office, but his hands weren't completely clean when he was Prez. I think Obama is a good man, but I DO think he has cut corners. Serving on the Annenberg Challenge with Ayers is an example of him going along to get along, because I would imagine for an up and comer in Chicago politics, he didn't have the leverage to say he wouldn't serve on a board with Bill Ayers. He hasn't been completely forthcoming on that, and he deserves some criticism for it, but I think the McCain campaign has gone way out on a limb trying to make that more sinister than it really is. And you can't be a complete naif to go up through the ranks of Chicago politics by being soft.

Most of what has attracted me to Obama's candidacy is that he was against the war from the beginning. I marched against the war from the beginning because I thought it was the wrong war at the wrong time. I would've rather been wrong for the sake of my country, so it's not an ego thing for me. Obama having the judgment to call the war right from the beginning gives me confidence in his intelligence and common sense. The other thing is that he's run a very smart and disciplined campaign. Nobody thought he could get to where he is right now. It's like the Mavericks knocking off the Spurs in the 06 Semis - the Spurs are like the Clintons - they were the brand name with the history of getting it done when it counts, while the Mavericks were untested and inexperienced. I just hope Obama can finish off the job unlike the Mavericks. How he has run his campaign gives me great confidence that he will make a competent president, whereas McCain has just been erratic and all over the place.

I don't believe Obama will solve racism in this country, not by a long shot. What I do believe is that Obama is the type of leader that can help unite this fractured country. We are seeing proof of that with his record crowds and fund raising dollars. His message may not be working on you, but there are a of a lot of people in this country that are inspired by him and what he stands for. I personally believe that how a candidate runs his/her campaign is a telling sign of how they will govern. Even you must admit that Obama's campaign is relatively tame in comparison to what we've seen in the last few decades from both parties.

Now I personally don't believe Obama is some sort of messiah or savior. In fact I really don't believe many Obama supporters really do view him in that light. My support mainly comes from the books and writings of his I have read in the last few years. This is a man whose beliefs and views about this world resonate very deeply with my own. I do feel a profound connection to his words that I honestly haven't felt with any candidate in my lifetime. If this makes me an "Obama " or whatever you like to throw out than so be it.
