Manu Ginobili Shooting Guard Number 20
Rating: 91
Here is everyones favorite Argentinian Lefty the Great Manu. Manu is a fantastic player in real life and in NBA 2k9 he is no different. Utilized properly you will see you have a great guard to take over in clutch situations. Manu greatest strength is his superior shooting ability. Anywhere on the court he is a threat. His 3pt rating is ridiculous and mid range game is superb. Since Manu has such great shooting attributes I think 2k wanted to make sure he wasn't abusable and decided to make his shot super hardI dont know about you but i struggled like with his shot. Its like I would have it one game and make threes left and right then the next game wide open shots would brick. I learned that his release is super quick. Master his shot and you can score from anywhere on the court.
Manu can drive very effectively finishing with layups and once in a blue will throw down a dunk. They are so rare that when you do dunk on someone with him you appreciate it a little moreHis best crossover I believe is the basic (Hold right trigger and move the left analog stick from the dribbling hand to the other hand quickly) Start by moving Manu in one direction (not holding turbo just using the left analog) then do a basic crossover to the other hand. Once you do the crossover you should have a lane to the hoop. I want you to figure out for yourself the best way to finish with Manu. His double crossover is great also and his around the back is very good as well.
Since Manu is such a great shooter this is where you can apply the step back technique. To step back Move the left analog stick opposite of the direction you are facing and press the Y button. This move is great to get quick space to put up a shot. Since Manu has a quick release also you have a great move to pull off to get an open shot. Another thing I need to emphasize is to use the pump fake. Great shooters utilize the pump fake to get their defender off the ground to take an open shot. You should do the same. Throw a couple of fakes out there to get an easier shot. An open 3 is easier to make than an contested 3 and a pump fake can be the difference.
Thats it for now tomorrow I will get to the Greatest Power Forward to ever play the game, Tim Duncan.
Thanks for the advice. I have been having a of a time getting the hang of 2k9. I have lost like 8 straight games online. I don't play offline much, maybe 2 or 3 games. But I kept my paitience and stuck with my boys. Now that I've gotten to know the game a little better, I've won like 3 straight. Typically manu is my highest scorer timmy is usually 2nd. I'll give tony some major attention now though.
Obviously, since some dunce at 2k decided to rate Brand higher than Dirk![]()
thanks again! im gonna try out the step back... didnt think of that one!![]()
Just make it a TD and TP show and you cannot lose with Spurs. I used a line-up of Tony, Manu, Finley, Bruce and TD against my mate who used either the Suns or Mavs. He could not stop TP or TD. Too easy!
Do these controls work on the PS3, or no? Can someone confirm? I haven't been able to try these controls due to time issues. I love the NBA 2K series! 2K9 is awesome! However, I feel I am not up to par. In 2k8, I considered myself really good. My online record was pretty damn good as well. I am struggling with 2k9. Again, my online record is fair, but not where I want it to be. Either I am playing cheesers who constantly score with LBJ, Kobe, T-Mac, or they are constantly just shooting three point shots...scrubs!!! I hate when that happens! I think a bit of tweaks can really work wonders...help a brutha out lol! Go Spurs!
Tim > Parker if you know how the shot stick translates to the new post moves. Hes got everything.
Post up and go to work, its the only way to beat another human - that Parker crossover wont work on a player over and over. You'll at least need a pick and roll.
Ha and here I was thinking I was the only person who used the small ball lineup. That lineup is great for playing against teams that like to run or if you like to run a fast paced offense. Bowen is good defending power forward (be careful if they start backing down you may want to slide Timmy over to swat the shot) Finley can take advantage over slower small forwards with his drive and surprisingly is a very strong finisher at the rim.
They work on PS3 I dont know the exact mapping of the buttons thats why I put the correct names of the moves I am listing(Stutter,Stepback etc etc just look in your manual and it should show you how to perform these moves)
I went through the same growing pains you have. In 2k8 I was a GOD I played in many sim leagues winning championships and playing online beating people. Now I have not played 2k9 online yet(I always get a season in offline before I get online that way I know my players tendencies, releases what they are good at what they are not etc etc) 2k9 took me a while but I figured it out now. I know exactly what you are going through playing against Kobe and Lebron. Here is some of my strategies when defending against the superstars of 2k and these work great against the CPU and Human players.
1. STOP REACHING!!!!
Dont even bother trying to strip the ball from superstars. They rarely turn it over. Focus on staying in front of the player. If you can stay in front of the player you have a better chance of contesting his shot. Most of the time if a player is shooting and you are close enough he will put his hand up to contest the shot regardless. If you dont reach you will rarely get beat. I know its tempting against human players to reach when they get crossover happy but try not to get reach happy. you will see the diffrence immediately.
2.Lock on defense is not abusable this year. You cannot just hold the trigger down and stay with your opponent. You have to pay attention to what direction the player is moving. "But how do I know the best way to shade the ball handler?" Quite simple look at what hand he is dribbling with. If he is dribbling with his left hand that means he is looking to go left and so on. If you already have an Idea of where this player is going you can back off(against human players not the cpu the cpu will knock down ANY shot you give them with any space on the harder diificulties with anyone.Seriously I have had Varejao knock down mid range jumpshots as if he was Richard Hamilton) Most human players with Superstars play one way Drive to the hoop or shoot a 3. What you have to learn is to force them to play your way. I tend to give open mid range jumpshots but shutdown the inside and 3 point line. Why would I leave the mid range open? Cause No one takes them!!
I dont understand it. Trust me watch whenever you play against those guys and see how many mid range shots they take. If they do its by accident from trying to drive to the hoop.
Work on your startegy of what you see your opponent doing effectively and take it away. Most people cant adapt and will continue to do the same ineffective moves over and over get frustrated and quit.
I agree that Tim is great on the low block and his mid range is nothing to ignore. I never wrote for you to sit there and do the same move over and over.Thats just re ed. Not for nothing though the Tony Parker Iso cannot be stopped. Even if you send a double team his dribble rating is so high that he will spit the defense and have a clear lane to the hoop regardless. I certainly would hope that my fellow Spur fans here would take the knowledge I and others have provided and add it to your game to help you dominate with your favorite team. I love this game and what makes it even better is when I smack chumps with my favorite team!!
Tim Duncan strategy coming tonight I have to go the stockmarket is closing in 30 mins .
Later![]()
good advice... i always have to remind myself to take it slow in 2k and when i do things seem to flow more offensively for me. ah the turbo button is a curse sometimes.
Maybe it was based on toughness
having splitter is fun. hes rated 72 i think but hes very productive out there. i just wish he came over this year.
Dirk still wins. In fact, there's not many nba players tougher than Dirk. Let me know next time a player gets a tooth knocked out in a playoff game and comes back to finish it.
