It's so funny that we're all campaigning for the "headless body" of Jacque Vaughn. Reminds me of last year, when we are all calling for the "headless body" of Beno. To our surprise, Pop served him up to us all. It'll be interesting to see what transpires. Because of the respect Pop has for his valued veterans, I wouldn't get your hopes up for a JV funeral.

Ok..1 preseason game left..I agree with the 3 roster cuts..1 more cut..WAKE UP POP>>>PRESS THE EJECT BUTTON ON VAUGHN..despite his career high 3 points last night..LET HIM GO!!!! A couple words about a few players..BOWEN _ is a LIABILITY..his defense no longer as good..sucks at everything related to offense..and 3 pointers will be few and far between..you will see after the first 10 games or so..FINLEY_lacked confidence in his shot during playoffs..same will hold true this early season...keep ALL the young talent...OBERTO_..can score if needed..but with OBERTO, FINLEY, and BOWEN on the court at the same time..BAD NEWS!!!!
JV is insurance.....aint nothin' wrong w/ Bowen....Fin will shoot his way out of any slump....and Oberto is smart enough to play w/ anybody....good news!!!

The interest in jettisoning guys who've actually gotten things done in favor of guys who've never done anything always amazes me. Particularly when some of the young guys that many are anxious to keep prove to be players who don't even sniff an NBA roster.

I particularly will be amazed if this team breaks camp without Jacque Vaughn. Last year, the Beno thing made sense, given that he had been "injured" throughout camp and given that the Spurs had seen Darius Washington play extremely well in preseason games. This board screamed for that move and, as it turns out, Beno has shown himself to be an NBA player while Washington appears to have been exposed and is now looking for a job, again.

The length of Vaughn's career makes it incredibly difficult to pin point which washed up, training camp invite PG that Vaughn beat out for a job is posting under the name Punkkboy 44.

I don't think Pop will go into this season with two rookies behind Parker. It's a long season and injuries occur. Also you have to give Parker some rest and in close games against good opponents, you don't want a rookie out there unless he has special talent.

It's true that Pop started Parker as a rookie, but neither of these guys (Hill and Farmer) have shown any of the instant s om talent of Parker.

So it's either keep Vaughn and give up one of the young guards--or keep Vaughn and cut one of the forwards. I'm not a big Vaughn fan, but the makeup of the rest of team simply suggests that Vaughn has to stay and one of these guys goes.

Me too. Every championship run had a mix of veterans w/ a few young guys. Folks who talk about we're too old and want to have all young players must want to barely make the playoffs or go out in the first round every year. Thats what will happen w/ out enough experience on the roster.

This can be true however, what did JV or even bonner provide our team with down the stretch last year? Don't you think we have enough leadership from our main vets where we do not need our bench warming vets.

Bonner couldnt crack the rotation w/ Horry in there. But JV filled in well i thought when TP went down. He at least provides leadership by example. They call a timeout and he is sprinting to the huddle. I love that ish about him. i love how he will "D"-up to somebody and take the ball from them or take a charge. I remember last year in a blow out win Pop put him in w/ the rest of the scrubs and he was diving on the floor w/ 1 minute left and Pop was like OMG stop it you're going to hurt yourself. Sean Elliott was laughing sitting @ the press table. JV was laughing after he got the steal and I was laughing in my living room. Elliott said he's like the energizer bunny, he cant turn it off. He cant shoot well but he can make layups and distribute. And to answer your last question: No. Benchwarming vets that dont cause a distraction are very needed. Plus JV is an INSURANCE POLICY against injuries @ the critical PG position. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

What's your take on Bonner? I mean, I highly doubt the Spurs are willing to toss out $3 millions in the trash, but I don't recall him doing anything special out there outside what a D-Leaguer could give us.

Looking forward to seeing some amendments at the end of the season. In between just hoping the likes of Mason, Hill and Tolliver play Vaughn and Bonner out of the rotation. Perhaps, if I am lucky, maybe even Mahinmi will send Oberto to the bench.
