This is just a short list of recent cuts, but I assume only the players worth looking at would have lasted until around now.

Is there any chance the Spurs decide to go with a player that performed well for another team, but was waived due to specific team needs?

Frankly I'd be in favor of going out and getting this guy:

    http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_ar...dj_strawberry/

The Rockets waived guard D.J. Strawberry on Friday, meaning that Von Wafer has secured the team's final roster spot.

Wafer averaged 12.4 points in an average of 24 minutes per game.

Strawberry also played well, averaging 8.2 points on 41.7 percent shooting.

New Jersey waives Eddie Gill, Brian Hamilton, Julius Hodge and Keith Van Horn.
    I thought he would've had a chance.

If nobody picks up Strawberry, the Toros should pounce. He's pretty raw, and probably needs a year of d-league seasoning. He'd also get a leg up on training camp for next year by learning the system. If he blows up, you cut one of the plainclothes unit and put him on the 15 man roster.

I was the one to start the Strawberry bandwagon a few years ago (if you can call it that). I was advocating that we take him with either our late pick (58) or as an undrafted. Of course, we drafted Printezis instead (trading him for a future 2nd, then drafting Dragic with that pick and trading him for Hairston and yet another 2nd). And Strawberry went 59th to PHX. He has looked consistently good despite his late pick status, but was simply redundant in PHX (they also drafted Alando Tucker that year in the 1st, a better player at the same position). But I think Strawberry could do some things for us down the line.

why dont we start by making sure Ian is in the squad and not heading to Toros. Dude need experience and the only way to get it is by putting him on the floor.... dont tell me its another jackie butler BS.
I like Austin Croshere, the dude can score and he plays hard..the problem is that he spend his career jumping around bad luck team

Even if Ian is going to Austin, he'll be on the 15 man Spurs roster like last year. There's really no room left on the Spurs 15 man list. They still have to make (or announce) one more cut. Anyone else would have to sign a Toros contract, and be a full time d-leaguer.

Being a full-time D-Leaguer isn't a bad gig though. The Spurs could sign say Tolliver and Farmer and then send Hairston and Strawberry to the Toros. Then if Hairston and Strawberry are lighting it up while Farmer and Tolliver struggle we could simply waive the guys on our roster for the guys doing the full-time d-league bit.

The problem with that is that anyone not on the Spurs 15 man list is subject to call up by any of the teams associated with the Toros. I think that's how Williams ended up leaving the org last year. He was cut, and on a Toros contract and I think the LAC called him up. Players you cut, I believe, also do NOT have to sign with the Toros.

We own the Toros, but don't have exclusive rights to non-Spurs roster players.

Yeah, that's correct. They aren't the Spurs' farm team. Only guys that have Spurs roster spots are protected.

How has DJ not secured a gig? He was impressive for the Suns, but D'Antoni was too stupid to play him.

If Strawberry enter in the D-League, he won't be a Toros.
D-League teams just can't chose to sign the players they want. There are rules.

Ummm, yea, but Strawberry didn't just magically end up with the Rockets. The Suns let him go before that.

I'd take Strawberry over Von Wafer though. I've seen both play and I'm pretty convinced Von Wafer isn't all put together.
