back in the 90's ACORN began a concerted effort to get banks to lend to people who could not afford it - crying disicrimation and racism - "redlining" etc. because banks did not want to lend less than say $10,000 .. or they did not want to lend to billy who had a 64% DTI. Acorn would conduct demonstrations at the banks - enter the bank with border line violent tactics.. and promoted legislation - ( Obama was an attorney at this time involved in a lawsuit against Citibank for such an issue)
Having said that - ACORN played a vital role in this current economic meltdown - along with corporate greed and loose credit policies with cirtually no attention paid to risk for fear of appearing discriminatory (as a result of ACORN activities)... Fannie Mae - Freddie Mac -- (with Obama ranked #2 in monies received from those two)...
