I agree with you, that one and the other one are less than stellar candidates. My vote won't matter much in Texas anyway, so why vote?

I am a conservative democrat. What's wrong with that? The dems are holding the middle ground while the wingnuts run the repub party. I m very wary of corporate power. I do not believe in trickle-down economics. I like economic policies that are geared towards bettering the lot of the middle class. I do not care about gays marrying one another-they may as well be as miserable as the rest of us.
And I reject the notion of preemptive war!
It appears that a big chunk of America feels the same way.

So how is Obama so socialist? The most socialist aspect of his policies would be health care, I suppose, but that is intended to "build on the existing health care system". Also note that US, state, and local governments pay for 50% of health care already.
