I find it odd that anyone would claim any city is the murder capital of 2008 WHEN 2008 HASN'T ENDED YET.

Take it up with the Huffington Post...

I find it odd that anyone reads stuff from a site owned by a commie who doesn't pay taxes that post articles that aren't even worthy of wiping your ass with...yet people do.

    The actual Huffington Post headline:

Chicago Once Again The US "Murder Capital"
    stumble digg reddit del.ico.us news trust mixx.com CBS 2 Chicago | October 25, 2008 12:29 PM

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I find that article interesting. They ONLY say Chicago has more murders than New York City and Los Angeles. But then they claim it's the murder capital by citing the projection of how many murders might occur. I think I'll wait to see the final numbers for all cities before declaring it the murder capital (which it hasn't been since 1998).

It's based off a CBS2 Chicago article which doesn't explain how they came to the conclusion Chicago is the murder capital.

Wasn't the headline of the CBS2 Chicago article...it was the headline of the Huffington Post article...

As for how they got that conclusion...it's a rather complex formula of Chicago having the most murders so far.

How do you know they have the most murders so far? Do you have the raw data? All they say is that Chicago has more than NY and LA.

Whott always attacks the messenger (HP), ignoring the facts of the article.

Whott won't find such gun facts on Fox News, Limbaugh, Boortz, Savage, etc.

Harsh comments by conservatives in here. I thought life was something held sacred to you? Lots of children are dying by gun accidents.
Banning guns won't stop those from happening. If you own a firearm you shouldn't have it in a place a child can get to it.

Life is something incredibly sacred in my eyes, but you know what? If someone breaks into my home and threatens my family, well, that's their choice and I'm going to defend the life of me and my family.

As open minded as I am I'm not an advocate for guns despite our cons utional rights.

I would however be open to stricter guidelines for gun ownership. There should be way more required including courses on gun safety and storage before being able to make a purchase.

You know I wouldn't feel like we have to eliminate guns if this country would tighten up on how to obtain and own a gun. I think its more of an issue of en lement than being a responsible carrier. It needs to change.
Do you even know about the process of obtaining and owning a gun? I mean, outside of the ones sold on the streets that no amount of legislation is going to govern.

I'll give you how it is here in Texas and most other states.... you go to a store or a gun show to buy a firearm. When you decide what you want, a federal FBI background check is called in by the seller. They call in all your personal information, and a check is run to make sure you don't have a criminal record prior to you being able to purchase a firearm.

You have to be over the age of 21 to buy a firearm or ammunition in the state of Texas.

So tell me, given the above, what other restrictions or regulations do you feel should be enacted?

I hate it when anti-gun folks are ignorant about the laws in place.

Google is the friend of the person claiming Chicago is the murder capital. Google should be used by that person to provide any evidence such a statement is true.

    I don't care what HuffPo posts. They're wrong. I don't lose.

Oh, and back to boutons original copy and paste job...

32 Number of states in the US that allow ANYONE to purchase firearms without an ID or criminal background check
Ehhhh, wrong. Because of the Brady Bill all states and firearm sellers now perform an NICS background check prior to releasing a firearm for purchase.

The only 'hole' in the system is that things like mental health history (for people like the kid who shot up VT) are not released to the NICS system because of liberal lawyers who have fought to keep the individual medical records under lock and key (when in a limited use such as the NICS system this would be great information to have).

Look, I know boutons is a ing idiot on about everything, but banning guns or further restricting their sale isn't going to stop gun violence from happening.

The Bureau of ATF estimates there's over 300 million firearms in this country, that's nearly one for every person in this country.

Firearm safety and things like parents being responsible about securing their weapons in the house and/or teaching their kids about the dangers of firearm is what you need, not bans and restrictions.

Switzerland requires every person living in its country to have a rifle in their home as a sort of national defense initiative should they ever be invaded. They have one of the lowest gun violence rates in the world. Why? Because they educate their children and their masses.

Villifying guns and the number of deaths caused by them is such a pussy argument from the left. If someone decides they're going to kill someone, they're going to do it. If you ban guns, they'd use whatever else is handy (knife, baseball bat, etc.) if they didn't already have a firearm.

Of course, I guess you limp wristed libs would probably go after knives next, like the U.K. has.

But the bottom line is the second amendment protects an American's right to own a firearm, and that amendment was originally written to protect the people from the tyranny of the government.

All the same, if someone breaks into your home, the cops ain't getting there in enough time to save your ass.

Point four-five-four Taurus Raging Bull Casull. Five round chamber, (up to) 40% more powerful than a .45.

My father is a former gun dealer.

I have personally shot over 40 different types of guns, and probably around 150 different weapons.

I held my first gun when I was four.

Shot my first gun when I was seven.

I was NEVER restricted from holding, touching, or knowing about any of the weapons in our family house, as long as my dad was around. He would inform me of the velocity and stopping power, as well as the recoil, of any round out of any gun I thought about shooting.

He would let me shoot whenever I felt like it, as long as I followed precautions.

And guess what? We have NEVER had an accident with a gun in our house. No one in our entire has been shot or hurt with a gun, because we were EDUCATED about gun ownership and responsibility. There was never a mystery around what a gun is to me. Take the guesswork out of it, act like a responsible person who knows what you're holding in your hands, and you won't have accidents.

That said, I don't shoot often. They just don't interest me as much anymore. However, I feel confident that I would know exactly what to do in a life or death situation.

Why does everyone focus on gun crimes and compare gun deaths to places like England ? Wouldn't it be more accurate to focus on violent deaths ? I mean I am no google expert ( mostly because it is run by that liberal left clown) but using a diferent search engine - I found this link :

    http://www.worldmapper.org/display.php?selected=291

from 2002 showing the highest rate in Colombia -- with the #1 region being South America -- followed by Africa.

Kids get killed in gun accidents. And car accidents. And pretty much every other type of accident.

The right to bear arms is protected by the 2nd Amendment, and is an important protection against tyranny. Really, that should be the end-of-story.

True. That is the point, I don't trust the government at all and if the ever hits the fan you better believe the only person I'm relying on is myself for protection.

That makes sense, however the biggest threat the government had back then were cannon balls.
