With Manu out the Spurs look mediocre and soft. He makes the team so much better. Discuss.

I remember last year we played the Mavericks without Duncan and Manu just ate the Mavericks for lunch. This is an interesting topic.

Its hard to say for me but i would have to say this. In the regular season, a healthy Manu is our MVP, but in the playoffs, Duncan is THE MVP

you mean you're thinking if it was Duncan on IL not Manu, Spurs could it be @ 3-0 not 0-3?

I think Manu brings energy and controlled chaos which is something the spurs were use to and sorely miss right now. Manu's passion is like no other. It's like Tim and Tony are doing so much, but its not enough at all. We need that 3rd spark.

Its the defense thats been killing us in our 3 losses, we could have Michael Jordan lining up for us and wed still probly lose 2 of the 3.

Tim is beyond unappreciated All due respect to Manu (everybody knows I love him) but people need to stop underestimating the importance of Tim's defense as much as his offense. Manu is important to this team, but Tim IS this team. I thought the last 10 season's had pretty much cleared this beyond a measure of a doubt.

I think Timmy is definitely the team's defensive MVP. But without Manu, the Spurs just look lost, like they're expecting him to come off the bench and save the game... Except he's injured. Manu is definitely the offensive MVP of this team, and the Spurs won't go far without him.

The Spurs are a three-headed monster. If one of those heads isn't performing well, the rest of the body suffers.

Hey, they have four heads, now. And one of them's is Mason's. Course, they have two assholes in Bonner and Finley. Finley isn't horrible per se, but he's horrible for the minutes he's getting.

It's not really a matter of MVP when it comes to the Spurs. Duncan, Manu, Parker, and even Bowen have all proven to be pretty indispensable for the Spurs and their success. In fact, Bowen's apparent decline in level of play may also be a very key factor in the Spurs struggles. Not as much as the absence of Manu, but still something to consider.

But, at the end of the day, Duncan remains the most important piece to the team simply because the rest of the Spurs front court is not capable of replacing what he brings were he to be out. Parker can help make up for Manu's absence at least in scoring and attacking defenses, and there are guys like Mason and Finley who are capable of providing some of the things Manu brought, but there is no one on the Spurs that can even remotely replace what Duncan brings to the team.

Now will be the question if Tim Duncan realy that good of a basketball player. All in all he can't do right now and it's not making me more happy.
That gives another argument in a case.
"Ohh yea?! What was Tim Duncan doing when Gino was out? He was losing games, so don't say he could handle Wolves situation better then KG !!!!! "

The problem hasnt been the O as much as it is the D. If the Spurs played actual Spurs defense in the first 3 games theyre probably 3-0, or at least 2-1. Manu is huge on O, but if you take out Parker or Duncan and put in Manu, the Spurs are still 0-3 if they play D like they have.

then how did they beat the jazz and the mavs last year without him??

i'm not saying manu > tim, but people here are acting like its just a matter of addition and subtraction.

what matters is the team, its chemistry and balance. its not a mathematical formula.

right now the spurs have a lot of new players (for their standards at least) and they still havent figured out how to play as a team. I've only seen 15-20 min of each game but there have been plenty of bad rotations, poor transition D, poor boxing out, poor passes- if that is still happening in december, then it wont matter if we have the big 3 or big 2 or big 1.

Tim is the cornerstone and the MVP of this team and we're not going to win without him. Besides it's been our defense that has been killing us and not our offense. Tony has been doing his thing and Mason has really been filling in nicely for Manu since he's been gone along with some of the other guys.

I have been saying it for 2 years + now. Ginob is the MVP of this team. He is the wild card, he is the spark. He is hard to gaurd, he is a good defender, he is a good inside and outside shooter and is a good rebounder.

I said it a week ago. "Every game that Ginob is out is a losable game in the West" i stand by that comment.

TD is the Spurs MVP,Manu is the heart and soul for all the intangibles he brings to the table and having the ball on his hands in the last 3 or 4 mins of each game, and they both complement eachother perfectly.
The one who needs to step up is TP right now, time to grow some balls.
How is he NOT stepping up?? Better yet, when, in the past 3 years, has he not stepped up? This whole "TP doesn't step up" bull is such a bull reputation, spread around by people that clearly haven't been watching.

Watching the games REALLY feel like without that dynamic on the team.

I really REALLY hope it encourages R.C. to do something soon. It wont...but I hope it does.

-and yes, if he makes everyone around him THAT MUCH better then yes, he is.
