Do you?
I have to ask the question. 96 percent of black people voted fo Obama, thats incredible. Does anyone think this is racism ?
what did you expect? you guys picked palin.
no -- nothing here -- that doesn't mean anything -- it doesnt mean that they voted for him just because he was black -- no -- move along sir - move along. nothing to see here.. ignore that rev. wright and william ayers stuff too
Do you think all the blacks who voted for Obama are racist?
Yes or no.
your unhappiness is amusing.
I am on the fence. 96 percent is a awful lot, nearly every black person 18 and up, men and women, democrats and republicans, catholic and baptist. Whatever else category they put you in. 96 percent of all blacks voted for him no matter what party or affiliate they could have been in before. Thats why I am asking the question. I'm curious what other peoples thoughts are.
Also, 52% of people making over $200,000 are racists.
That is probably only about 10% of the total voting population. There are MANY more whites that vote out there.
Fine I'll say it. Althought I don't think it was the primary factor in him winning I think a large portion of black people voted for him because he was black and that reason solely.
That doesn't mean they voted for him because McCain was white.
Kerry got 88% of the black vote, Obama 95%. So the black vote increased in favor of the Democrats by 7%.
Kerry got 48% of the popular vote, compared to 53% (pending final results) for Obama. A 5% increase. So the black vote only swung 2% more than the general vote.
2% = BFD.

this video is pretty funny. it's howard stern asking harlem voters whether or not they support obama - the trick is that they switch obama and mccain's views, yet they still say they'd vote obama. LOL

i know. obama won because lots of different people voted for him. he is now my president. 96 percent sticks out of all voting results. its a subject i think people will discuss everywhere and after the celebrations come to a close. its really a stat i thought i would never see from any race in a presidental election. 50 different states the black people voted for obama. i'm curious to why?
Obama also got a larger % of the white vote than Kerry.
I thought I went over this already?
Spurminator is correct.
Blacks vote around 85-90% Democrat anyway. So about 5-10% of blacks probably voted for Obama solely on the basis of race... now ask yourself how many whites voted for McCain because he was white or Obama was black. I'd confidentaly guess it's also around 5-10%... if not even a bit higher.
They are racists who voted for the white half of Obama.
sorry i did not get the memo. i did not know kerry got 88 percent. you only learn if u ask the question
What's even worse, up until last night 100% of black people in America had voted for white candidates ever since they start voting. Reverse racists.
Plenty of blacks voted for Obama just because he's black. Who can blame them? They haven't had a lot of luck voting for whiteys, have they?
Plenty of whiteys, esp in the red-states, voted for McNasty primarily because he was the non-black candidate.
If the blacks voting for Obama thought they'd get special assistance because he's black, then I expect them to be disappointed.
To succeed, Obama must absolutely succeed for everybody and not be seen as specifically helping people because they are black. I expect the sleaze-bag Repugs to slime him repeatedly with that charge, playing to their red-neck, racist bubba base.
I have a colleague (white) who lived in the segregation era who told me that it was amazing for him that a black person could be president of United States, that it would have never thought this was possible and it was really happy that could happen.
Now think about all those black people who not only lived it but endured it, heard their grand parents or parents talking about those hard times.
I am not saying it is a good reason to vote for somebody, but we are all humans. And I would understand that somebody who had to live through that could be biased in their vote.
This has nothing to do with racism. They might have voted using the emotional fiber, but so does all the people who vote because they feel so and so is more Christian.
Maybe the 96% of the African American's voting were actually voting for the 50% of Obama that is white.
DD
More blacks probably went out to vote this time around. But like others have said in this thread, the majority of Blacks who have voted in the past were mostly democrats anyways....
Re ed thread. As Spurm pointed out, African-Americans and Latinos have consistently favored the Democrats; this time the % was slightly higher than last time. Also, the white vote increased for Obama.
The trend here is that Obama has expanded his reach across all communities. He has managed to come across as a uniting force who understands that the USA is becoming more diverse by the year. That is why he won.
