not worth $13
A lot of people have recommended the Chimay Grand Reserve. Is it really worth the $13 for the 1.9 pint bottles I see?
not worth $13
On the Sam Adams I've had:
1. Boston Lager - Love it. One of my favorites.
2. Summer Ale - Terrible cold; way too much lemon. As it warms, it has a subtle peppery flavor come through that improves it dramatically.
3. Irish Red - Pretty good.
4. Honey Porter - Awful. Sierra Nevada's porter owns this piece of crap.
5. Black Lager - Flavorless, just like Shiner's black lager. Save this one for your friends when they come over if they can't tell the difference.
Thanks. Have you seen the Stone Double Bas Ale in Texas? Their website said they started shipping it Monday and I'm eager to try everything I can find from them.
i had it at the great american beer festival, good stuff!
Long Trail IPA - Vermont
Red Hook IPA - New Hampshire
Casco Bay Riptide Red - Maine
Some others:
Gritty McDuff's Brown Ale - Maine
Sebago Boathouse Brown - Maine
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
Goose Island Honkers Ale - Chicago
Harpoon IPA - Massachusetts
Shipyard Export Ale - Maine
Geary's Pale Ale - Maine
I pretty much agree with this, although I haven't found the summer ale to be palatable in any situation. The black lager is pretty average at best.
I couldn't find Double Bas Ale @ Central Market, so I got some Rogue Chocolate Stout instead, and it turned out to be pretty exceptional. This is the best stout I've ever had, even better than Sierra Nevada's. Too bad it's twice the price though.
Has an intense chocolate smell and flavor, while still being pretty dry. Damn, the West Coast makes some incredible brews.
PBR!!!
I love that beer. I used to drink the out of it.
Schlitz always tasted salty to me.
BB,
Try Shakespeare Stout from Rogue - generally regarded as one of the best readily-available stouts around.
We are opening on Black Friday, hope to see you guys soon.
Shakespeare Stout's pretty nice too... thanks for the reco.
1. Shiner Bock
2. Abita Purple Haze (can't drink a ton of it but it reminds me of good times in New Orleans)
3. Tecate (great guadalupe river, or beach beer)
4. Blue Moon
