What happened to Portland?
They are in dire need of Veterans to take the next step.
Travis Outlaw, Batum, Channing Frye, Sergio Rodriguez, Blake, Bayless might be available. Maybe even Rudy.
Chicago Bulls:
Way too many young, versatile PG/SG/SF types.
Unde rold friend Vinny Del Negro, the Bulls look confused and rudderless so far. They need to decide if the future is now (D. Rose, Sefolosha, Deng) or later (Hinrich, Gordon, Nocioni).
I could see the Bulls making a panic move to move either one of their more veteran guards to go totally youth movement or one of the underdeveloped youngsters to bring in some veteran leadership.
I think Sefolosha is a great "buy low" type.
Sacramento Kings:
This team has a lot of promising big men, particularly J. Thompson and Hawes. Where does that leave B. Miller M. Moore and the other Kings bigs? M. Moore has struggled mightily to start the season. The more the Kings lose, maybe they turn to all the youth and would trade away a hustling PF/C like Moore away. It would've been sweet to actually trade Udrih to the Kings.
New Jersey Nets:
Anopther team that is going nowhere fast, as they are trying to clear cap space for LeBron in 2010. I still think Sean Williams has potential. He's far down on the depth chart now, as the Nets have Boone, Lopes Yi, etc. as PF/Cs.
I know these players that I'm mentioning aren't sexy names and have gotten off to poor starts.
And that's exactly why the Spurs might have a shot at them.
The only problem is that out front office never makes trades that result in talent improvements and we have nothing to offer.

If they'd just get someone who canhelp Tim on the glass and I mean HELP then I think they'd be fine. Their defense is suffering and alot of that has to do with POOR rebounding. Very Poor. If you can't score atleast don't give up the offensive board.
Finley, Vaughn and Bonner to Orlando for Tony Battie. Then bring Hairston up from the Toros.

They love Batum.
Outlaw (who I would love to snag) isn't going anywhere with Webster out and the same goes for Frye until Oden is back.
Blake is the closest thing that they have to a veteran in the starting lineup.
Bayless and Rudy have too much upside and hype to dump them now.
Oh, and Portland is a serious playoff contender.
The key is to rape teams that are going nowhere.
You know, like the Lakers did to the Grizzlies when they got Gaslol... before eliminating us from the playoffs.
It would work as a "right now" move if you think about it though. Sure he is overpaid, but he is a good defender and would give Duncan a lot of help in the shot blocking department. He would also come off the cap in time for 2010.
I've always liked Sefolosha and would welcome him here. The key word is swindle and what would we give up to get him? We can speculate all we want but Pop will call this shot.
Unfortunately our garbage is known throughout the league as just that. Probably couldn't give away Booner or Vaughn unless some team was really desparate - major injuries or something like that.
It would be nice to be on the other side of this kind of situation for a change.
As things are playing out I get even more upset just thinking that we gave away our 1st round pick in '09 to Portland for Thomas! I know it was done to position the Spurs for the le run last year but since it didn't work it now will be labeled a bust.
Is he really that much of an upgrade? I mean in comparison to Thomas? Where are the differences? There isn't that much of a differecne to me in order to make this trade, especially for three players. He isn't worth it.
That's what is most frustrating.
The front office has let the likes of Udrih and Scola go to Western teams scott-free, yet are saddled with overpaid veterans, very little if any attractive contracts and no immediate draft picks.
And they still lsot last year.

It would be nice if the Spurs could trade for a legitimate 7-footer. Doesn't necassarilly have to be an athletic freak, just a good rebounder and blocker.
Someone who can help us now, and we wouldn't have to groom that much.
Zydrunas Ilguaskas is kind of the player I have in mind (and the Danny Ferry connection doesn't hurt), but unfortunately, he makes way too much money for the Spurs to take on (10.8 mil this year, player option for 11.5 mil next). To match that, excluding the "big 3", we'd probably have to part ways with Bowen, Oberto, and anyone of Vaughn/Bonner/Udoka... that just might be too much to give up for Ilguaskas. Considering our lack of depth in the SF/PF/C position, and assuming CLE would even be interested... Even though Zydrunas and Duncan would make one of the best defensive and offensive frontcourts in the west, albeit not the "fastest".
I definitely wouldn't mind if the Spurs went after Mikki Moore, Diop, Joakim Noah, Andray Blatche, or maybe even Darko Milicic (probably the odd man out with Gasol and Arthur playing well).
Well, do we have anything to offer?
And when was the last time the Spurs front office upgraded talent in a deal?

Doesn't Del Negro not like Pop? I didn't like it when he got the coaching job because I thought that with him there he'd never want to make a trade with the Spurs.
If we could land either Sefolasha or a post I'd be happy.

The only team that swindles around the Spurs is the Rockets.
the fact the spurs have little to offer shows how poorly they have done in surrounding the top 3 players.
The league is passing them by if they continue to rely on over the hill unathletic players as major contributors. And its time to move Bowen to the bench as a defensive specialist.

The Bulls had yet to decide Monday whether to fill the roster spot of Kirk Hinrich, who is scheduled to undergo surgery today to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament. Without Hinrich, who was injured Friday in the victory over Phoenix and is expected to miss up to three months, the Bulls could use another pure point guard to back up rookie Derrick Rose.

We get rebounding help, and a young athletic big that the Spurs were reported as having interest in trading for. We also get rid of Bonner, and they get a PG. We lose Oberto's great passing and play alongside Timmay, but Tolliver seems to be able to play off Tim and pass to him quite well. Plus, we get rid of Bonner. And they all fit in the 2010 scheme of things.
I know it will never happen. But I can dream.
It was done to stop the Suns. And it worked. But now that plan wont work anymore. Kurt lost his touch 3 seasons ago.
