UFC Fight Night 16: Dec 10, 2008 in NC
-Yoshiyuki Yoshida vs Josh Koscheck
![]()
Great fight. Kos needs a win badly. I respect him for taking that though.
Coin flip for me...great effing fight.
Sherk lasted 3
Your point?
If Penn needed 3 full RDS to get rid of Sherk, who can't compete at 170, almost 2 full RDs to take out Pulver, who can't compete at 170 and almost 2 rds to get rid of Stevenson, who again can't fight at 170, your MMA math above is a little fuzzy and confusing, in regards to Kos and Alves. That's my point..
Alves would maul Pulver and Sherk something awful, GSP VS Sherk was a joke at 170, he killed him in far more dominant fashion than Penn did at 155..

That would be ugly, i mean talk about a mis-match...
UFN going 3 hours.
The full UFC Fight Night 16 fight card includes:
MAIN CARD
Josh Koscheck vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida
Jonathan Goulet vs. Mike Swick
Razak Al-Hussan vs. Steve Cantwell
Tim Credeur vs. Nate Loughran
Frankie Edgar vs. Matt Wiman
PRELIMINARY CARD
Brodie Farber vs. Luigi Fioravanti
Steve Bruno vs. Johnny Rees
Ben Saunders vs. Brandon Wolff
Dale Hartt vs. Corey Hill
Eddie Sanchez vs. Justin McCully (go away, both of you)
Im so glade the McCully-Sanchez fight isnt on tv. Also, does anyone have anything on Razak Al-Hussan, and that name is going to get booed so bad at the show for the troops.
you edited your post and then you deleted your original one..
Sherk was never a great 170 pd fighter, he got smashed by GSP in less time than Penn could do it at 155, he lasted 3 full Rounds with Penn and you got Penn taking out top contending 170 PD fighters, like Alves and Kos in 2 RDS.
That is what we call MMA Math gone Bizzaro Dallas..
Penn almost needed 3 rds to get rid of Jens Pulver for God's sake.. Alves would murder Pulver so badly they'd need his dentist to identify the body..
I think your MMAth is a little fuzzy. Who cares how many rounds it took him to take out Sherk. The almighty Brock Lesnar couldn't finish Heath Herring, GSP couldn't finish Fitch, ANDERSON SILVA couldn't even beat Patrick Cote. Different fighters match up differently and i was making my prediction that neither would make it past 2 rounds. How far Sherk made it is irrelevant. BJ was content with picking apart Sherk all day.
And your original post was dumb. Of course Alves would murder Pulver. Jens is a 145er and Alves could really be at 185! Why even bring up the obvious?
Again, Pulver is a 145er. Who could fight at 35 if he put his mind to it.
It matters when Sherk can't fight at 170 and you got BJ mopping the floor with much bigger more physically imposing opponents, you bet it matters..
"The almighty Brock Lesnar couldn't finish Heath Herring"
Didn't try to finish Herring is accurate and also irrelevant to the topic at hand..
"GSP couldn't finish Fitch, ANDERSON SILVA couldn't even beat Patrick Cote"
Fitch is a great 170 pd fighter who would murder everyone Penn has fought at 155, give me a call when BJ kicks his ass because he hasn't done squat at 170 since he got finished by Hughes... And Silva did beat Cote, he just didn't try and finish him before the injury. Please show me the footage where he seriously tried to end that fight? I'd love to see it..
"Different fighters match up differently and i was making my prediction that neither would make it past 2 rounds. How far Sherk made it is irrelevant. BJ was content with picking apart Sherk all day"
Ah i get it, so when Brock does not finish a fight it is because he can't and When Silva doesn't finish a fight it is because he can't but when Penn goes 3 with Sherk, it is because he didn't feel like finishing, until RD 3. Lets forget the fact that he landed like 10 hard overhand rights and didn't even rock Sherk until RD 3. now i see how your BJ fanboy syndrome works, glad we got that straight..
January can't come fast enough, that's all i have to say..
And I think it is a little bias to say that Alves would maul Sherk. Sherk has beat very good strikers before in Radach and he beat Karo Parisyan twice.
And how would Penn beat Alves BTW?? Stand in the pocket and eat leg kicks all day. He better outbox him and duck those kicks because he has Zero chance of getting ALves to the ground..
GSP used him for target practice at 170, Alves hits harder and is probably an even better striker than GSP. Sherk just looked average against Tyson Griffin at 155. You way overrate Penn's recent compe ion..
Sherk has an iron jaw. Watch the Franca fight. I think it is dumb to try and figure out who would win fights by how bad they beat Sean Sherk and the quality of their last opponents. It boils down to Sherk vs Penn. Sean Sherk and Thiago Alves are not in that cage and do not influence the fight at all. See you in '09.
Go Randy.
