I'm glad the auto bailout talks are dead, but damn Demos... I thought you were going to bring change and leadership to D.C.

Instead it's a case of taking their ball and going home when they don't get the money from where they want to get it from. I keep hearing Bush is the worst president in history out of them, and then they just want to go home, call it a winter break for two months, and expect Bush to cut a check for $25 billion and have this mess and the throw away of taxpayer money on his hands?

I don't agree at all with the auto bailout, but what should they do when Bush will just veto it and tell them to use the loan they gave them for improving efficiency/mileage instead? They're not going to get the 2/3 vote in the senate for this piece of legislation. Refusing to sign an auto bailout is one of the few good things Bush will have done in office (though for ty reasons).

The carmakers argue that bankruptcy would devastate their companies, but proponents say it would give them a chance to reorganize and emerge stronger and more compe ive.

It's unclear, though, whether Democrats controlling Congress are willing to risk being blamed for letting one of the Big Three—symbols of the nation's once-mighty manufacturing sector—go under.

Depends what they do. If they use it on the pensions, it's just good money chasing bad. Get 'em back on their feet, get consessions from the union. No concessions, no bailout. If they were smart they would because if the pensions fail and default to the insurerer, it won't be their full pension anyway. Right now, these pukes are trying to hold on to 100% benefits, living off of a false economy, which a lot of people are. Reality will settle in. Reality always wins in the end, one way or the other.
