Our beloved Mavs defeated the shorthanded Rockets 96-86, almost but basically a wire to wire lead. Third straight win, and all 3 by 10+ points.

But I come away unimpressed by the quality of basketball.

    1. First half we shot 58% but only had a 7 point lead. Why? 10 turnovers certainly didn't help. I felt this should've been a 10-12 point cushion

    2. Third quarter the Rockets shot 2-17 and we only extended the lead by 4 points... due to similar but not nearly as bad offensive inep ude.

Tonight sorta gave me the impression that the Rockets were the better team. Yao was out, Battier was out, Artest missed a few layups and free throws, and yet we "only" won by 10. The quality of basketball on our team has to pick up. the 4-6 points I feel we've left on the scoreboard per game are the difference between winning 50 games and getting beat in the first round, or winning 60 games and being a legitimate championship contender. Are we physically/mentally capable of producing those 4-6 extra points? I dunno, our roster seems to have holes, in particular at the shooting guard. Jho WAS out tonight though, so I can't say we were completely healthy.

Another note, we didn't get many offensive rebounds tonight, and I didn't like that.

One final note, I wanna see a few less turnovers out of Kidd and a few more points. JUST a few. Quality is everything, as I've said.

Shawne Williams looked like a scrub out there. barea in the game pisses me off (ON THE STARBURY BANDWAGON!)

I'm curious as to what Carlisle's thinking is behind the minute management of Gerald Green. But I trust Carlisle.

Why are we going small all of a sudden? I know the last few games were due to matchups, I guess we will see where Carlisle goes with this.

Anywho, it's nice to see the Mavs winning again... we should be 7-7 going into the Lakers game. But so far, I haven't sensed a "championship aura" from this team at all. GET BETTER BOYS

thats not the problem because the Mavs' center is not doing anything either. besides, anyone else playing the center position and we will get our asses kicked

Shawne Williams looked like a scrub out there.
Did you even watch the game, or just make this judgement based on the box score? Shawne Williams didn't shoot well, but he played a great game besides that. He was getting his hands into the passing lanes, altering shots, playing pretty decent defense, and giving the team some energy. He was doing all sorts of little things that don't wind up in the box score, and the little things that nobody else on the team does consistently. If he can give us that every night, I'm all for Shawne Williams getting playing time.

There's a reason he played 30+ minutes tonight, and it's not just that J-Ho was out. Shawne Williams is going to be a key component to this team before the season is over, and that will be a very good thing. The guy is a good shooter too, he just had a bad night tonight.

Barring a much needed trade, if our rotation winds up being Kidd/Green/Howard/Dirk/Damp with Terry as the 6th man and Williams/Bass/Singleton as the regulars off the bench (Diop coming in as a defensive specialist against guys like Shaq and Duncan only).....I could live with that.

I thought Williams played exceptional defense. He drew a textbook charge on Artest.

It's nice to finally see the Mavs close out a game when leading and the opposing team making a push.

I still stand by my opinion that Shawne Williams isn't that good. He had a few defensive bright spots but overall his lateral quickness seems mediocre at best. Missing those open 3's is vexing as well.
This team needs shooting and slashing. Jeez, we were like good at that just a year ago.

    It was ugly last night.

And I stil don't know why Carlisle benches Gerald Green, that guy can flat out ball, and with Tmac gimping around out there, he would have blown by SheMac all night long.

You guys could have and should have run our team off the floor, we are seriously hurting right now.

Mavs only won because Yao was MIA. But they still kinda suck.

Green would have played more, but Terry was so red hot they had to keep him in the game. And at SF, Williams was playing such strong defense that there really was no place on the court for Green.

He'll get more time as the season goes on, but last night he just didn't have a chance because of how good Terry and Williams were playing.

JET's game last night reminded me of game 4 of 2005 playoffs when he roasted the Rox. That 3 last night to seal it late in the 4th was in the same exact spot that he hit the 3 in game 4 right in front of JVG

Rockets suck. They need a big man besides Yao. Deke was servicable but perhaps big Jake wouldn't be so bad either. Like Adleman said, anyone over 6-7 pleaaaassee!

So does anyone think we lose this game if Josh Howard plays? I do.

I love what Josh brings in the first half of games, but in the 2nd half, when the offense was getting stagnant, we won the game by getting stops on defense. And if Josh is in there, I really doubt we get all those stops.

Maybe I'm getting too big a boner for Shawne Williams, but I really believe his defensive intensity last night won the game. And it's highly doubtful that the team brings the D like that with Josh in the game instead.

I agree. His 20 and 8 is the emptiest 20 and 8 you'll ever see.

When Terry is hot and hitting pull- up 3's, the Mavs are pretty tough.

They win when they're hitting jumpers like that. Terry isn't going to get as many shots with JHo in the game. The combination of that and the defense could have been the difference. Does Howard have trade value? I know he does, but I mean to get actual equivalent value.

Considering he's already on the block, a Gerald Wallace for J-Ho trade could be done, but Donnie & Mark are still spitting the "we love our team" bullcrap. I bet the Bobcats jump all over that trade, but the Mavs won't even consider it.
