And given the lows already mentioned, ESPN.com is declaring the Spurs won't even make the playoffs, making it the first time since Duncan joined the team in 1997 the team didn't play in the postseason.
what a ing idiot this writer is. He makes it sound like just b/c ESPN says that we won't make it after 11 games it must be a fact. he should have said "this would make it..." instead of "making it."

If the Spurs can get a #7 or better seed, I'm rooting for that. But if they're looking at a #8 seed, I'd rather they miss the Playoffs completely to get a lottery pick.
It's a dangerous 8 and you know it.

i actually prefer amare, i know amares D sucks but a dynamic scorer along with TD would be deadly.

Actually, I haven't decided whether the Spurs will miss the Playoffs or not. I do feel strongly that under no cir stance should they get the #8 seed. #7 and above or bust.

No way I prefer the spurs miss the playoffs rather the #8 seed. Allanon if a spurs / lakers happens on the first round it's going to hurt you.

There are some good and bad surprises roster wise about Spurs this year.

    The good news :
    - Mason and Hill are great pickups. Spurs have a damn great back court with Parker, Hill, Ginobili and Mason. Spurs FO has had some guts by picking a IUPUI guy with their first round pick and by spending most of their MLE on a quite unknown free agent. After 11 games in the season, it looks like their were damn right about both choices.
    - The offense. Finding some scoring outside the big 3 has been a concern for Spurs. This year it looks quite good on that side. Mason could be a solid 4th scoring option. Hill has some offensive skills even if they are still raw. After an ugly start, Finley and Bonner are playing really well and bring some shooting. BTW, Spurs' fans looks now really stupid for having trashed the FO to have chosen Finley for $5M over Barry for $4M...

    The bad news :
    - Oberto and Thomas are huge disappointment. Both should have been solid bigmen to play alongside of Duncan and they are horrible. FYI, Oberto averages 2.1ppg and 3.1rpg in 19.1mpg and Thomas averages 2.1ppg and 3.1rpg in 15mpg. It is Spurs' biggest concern so far. At least one of them needs to be again a solid player that is to say something like 5ppg and 5rpg in 20mpg with some solid defense.
    - A defensive minded SF. I don't know what to think about Bruce. I'm in wait and see mode with him. However, what sucks is that Spurs have nobody to help him. Udoka has been bad this year, he looks nowhere near being able to help a contender.
    - It's not a big deal but it would have been nice to have some inteestign prospect for the 14th and 15th spot. Tolliver has do some qualities but a shooting big who can't shoot is quite problematic. Since the start of the preseason he is 11 for 48 from 3pt land. Farmer has been waived and Ahean doesn't look that good.

Overall, I'm positively surprised by Spurs this year. Before the start of the season, I thought Spurs needed a trade to be a serious contender. I'm now not sure of that.

And Spurs fans wait for Mahinmi (or Godot, whichever contributes first).

Agreed 100%. I to am surprised at our success. Imo what we are really seeing is our system at work. We never have really seen what our system is like. Look at the New England Patriots for example. They lose Tom Brady and everyone thinks the Patriots are washed up. And yet they plug players into the system and it continues to win games. We've never had so many players plugged into our system in such a short period of time. Im just as happy with our record. Even if Fab and Kurt are playing horrible at the moment.

there's absolutely no way we miss the playoffs..

Rockets don't look great and there's no way they stay healthy for the entire season..they have to give Yao rest or else he wont hold up for the playoffs..McGrady is already talking about shutting it down for a while..

Phoenix still has significant problems with their system and chemistry right now..Shaq has to get his rest and will miss games every once in a while..

New Orleans has significantly slipped so far..it will probably change, but stuff like that doesn't happen overnight..

Dallas looks horrible, even when healthy..

we just need to stay around .500 before Ginobili or Parker comes back, and we'll be fine..

Utah and LA are the only teams distancing themselves..I fully expected the Lakers to be the #1 seed anyways, so it doesn't surprise me..

we're gonna beat the majority of the bad teams and lose to the majority of the good teams right now..we'll mix in a loss to the bad ones and a win vs. the good ones once in a while..
