Pacman's Next Mistake = Lifetime Ban

Sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen on Sunday that the Cowboys defensive back must strictly adhere to the terms of his reinstatement and any missteps will lead to a lifetime ban from the NFL.

Commissioner Roger Goodell relied on the recommendations of clinical specialists who oversaw Jones' 30 days in a rehab facility when deciding to reinstate him from his latest suspension.

Jones was suspended for the entire 2007 season because of multiple incidents while with the Tennessee ans, then was traded to the Cowboys during the offseason and given another chance by Goodell.

But on Oct. 7, only six weeks after being reinstated, he got into an alcohol-related scuffle with one of the bodyguards during a private party at an upscale Dallas hotel. The bodyguard was part of a security detail employed by the team to help keep the player out of trouble.

Goodell suspended Jones indefinitely a week later, saying he'd put a timeframe on it after the cornerback missed at least four games. By the time Jones returns, it will likely be a six-game suspension -- meaning he'll have missed 22 of 28 games since the end of the 2006 season because of suspensions.

Jones is slated to return to practice Monday and be eligible to play Dec. 7 at Pittsburgh.

Jones must now continue intensive rehab and counseling on an outpatient basis. Even a missed appointment will mean the end of Jones' troubled career in the NFL.

Absolutely ing ridiculous. I didn't think the scuffle was a big deal and I'm sure its just a matter of time before the commish removes him permanently for the next piddly ass event that happens. He's setting him up for failure. So this guy can basically come to work and not argue with anyone, have a disagreement, an opinion because it might be looked at as hostile.

If Pac goes out to a strip club and fires shots in the air or assaults someone I totally get it. Its just absurd to put a leash on a guy thats basically unreasonable. He got into an argument in his hotel room. He left willingly and didn't make a sceen. Pretty small that just about anyone could be a part of. The next time this guy gets into an argument with someone his career is over. ing ridiculous. People are going to be bating this guy left and right.

Gotta go with Zak on this one. Now I would imagine that something like an argument or speeding ticket would not lead to the ban but something major would, and it should. We don't know what the "terms of his reinstatement" are but as long as he sticks to them, which he should have in the first place, then there won't be a problem.

He was reportedly drunk and screaming in the face of a woman, and ended up getting into a fight with a guy that was hired by his own team to chaperone him that was serious enough that the police were called and things were broken and had to be paid for. I'm older than Pacman Jones is and I've never had that happen.

You also need to look at the details about the incident in Las Vegas that started him down this path. I've never grabbed a woman by her hair and slammed her face into the floor.

And it doesn't really matter, because it's not the talent of the cornerbacks that are responsible for the secondary stinking so bad, although they are pretty awful. I'm not sure how it's taking them so long to figure out what the problem with the defense is...

Look I've been in plenty of arguments and had the cops called out. Yelling in some chics face isn't that big of a deal. Now I do think slamming some chics face in the pavement is but you can't design framework around the mans job because of it. Either fire him or not. Stipulating the return with unreasonable requirements is ing ridiculous. The law will handle the person not the league. Let the law determine what he's guilty of not the league.

You can either hire someone or not you can either fire someone or not. You can't put in behavioral guidelines that some have to follow while others do not.

This guy may have or was guilty of crimes outside of his job in the past. What went down in that hotel room could have been anyone and if it was anyone other than Pac we'd never hear about it.

You can't punish someone for getting into an argument on their own time. No criminal charges....because their was nothing to charge. What noise pollution? Who the hasn't been in an argument?

All this becomes is an environment fulfilling prophecy. He's destined to fail. It'll be something stupid like an argument at a restaurant. Someone will bait this guy. Its bound to happen.

I never said I liked the guy... I never even said he was a good dude. Just be reasonable about it. I don't like the way the league handles their players. Goodell is unreasonable and power hungry.

There was some pushing between my brother in law and myself as well as a few others. We were drunk and all of us blew some petty out of proportions. It happened to be late around 1 and out in the garage. Someone called and the cops showed up. Nothing happened. They saw that there was an argument and it was over. Some of us left mad and stayed mad for a few days.

Not once did my boss come to me and stipulate new parameters for me staying employeed.

Who cares if there is a pattern. The team should dictate his role within an organization and his team should decide his employment not the league. He works and is paid for by his team.

Asking that he stay out of trouble shouldn't be unreasonable. The only reason he only yelled in the chick's face is because the security guy got in between them and ended up having to kick his ass. The NFL has a conduct policy that's agreed to by the players' union. When you sign a contract to play, you have to not only adhere to the terms of the contract, but to the conduct policy.

Private and public companies fire people all the time for behavioral reasons, particularly when their jobs are high profile and their behavior causes embarassment or damage to the company.

You can either hire someone or not you can either fire someone or not. You can't put in behavioral guidelines that some have to follow while others do not.

Again, there's a policy of conduct that all members of the players union have to abide by. It's not like there's someone else in the NFL doing the same things Pacman does and getting away with it.

First of all, it wasn't in a hotel room, it was an event at the hotel, so it was in public. Second, he's been warned before about keeping a low profile and staying out of trouble as a requirement of his continued employment and a condition of his reinstatement. He'd put himself in a zero-tolerance situation with his past behavior.

Since this is the guy who went to a strip joint for a few drinks before meeting with the commissioner, it's hardly surprising that the altercation came the day before Roger Goodell was scheduled to show up in Dallas to visit. If it was anyone other than Pac it wouldn't have happened because it seems that nobody else is that ing stupid.

If you sign a contract, you have to abide by the contract. If you're warned to stay out of trouble or else, you should stay out of trouble. If you are a member of a labor union with a conduct policy, you have to abide by that policy, even where it extends to your personal life.

Everyone's been in an argument. Not many people have beaten up a stripper and then had one of his buddies fire into a crowd of people with a gun during NBA all-star weekend in Las Vegas. Perhaps that has something to do with it, I don't know.

Pacman is a drunk who beats on women and is too ing stupid to stay out of trouble, even with millions of dollars at stake, yet somehow you still make it out like Goodell is the bad guy in this story. Amazing.
