Looks like Pop was exactly right regarding who the best PG on the board was. In fact, outside of Derrick Rose, Hill right now can put his stats up against any rookie point guard.

Westbrook, Bayless and Augustin don't have better stats. Dragic certainly doesn't have better stats.

Let's hope Hill can keep it up so that SpursTalk will owe Pop and the scouts an apology

Question- So far how does Hill's defense compare to Mason's? Can they defend similar players? And, which one has a better chance of helping against Kobe, since Bowen and Udoka both struggled last year? If Bowen has lost more than a step, is Hill going to used to defend some of those matchups?

Hey well since Pop and RC are so much smarter than us 'internet GMs' I"m sure they'll have plenty of playing time ready for Splitter when he plays for us next year....oh wait, he isn't? Oh because he used the Spurs FO so he could get a better contract overseas? Oh OK. Well at least we have Marcus Williams from last year to be a good role player....what we don't? Oh damn. What about all those other foreign players we drafted from 2000 -2007 that had so much 'upside'? Oh they play in Europe...oh ok.

Sometimes it's ok to say that RC and Pop SUCK at something. Yes yes, they got Manu and TP right but WHAT ELSE???? Let me answer that....NOTHING. They are lucky that Timmy can carry anybody to a Championship. They should build a statue to him right now in front of the AT&T Center.
    Had to QFT.

Right now, they are about equal. Hill's better man to man but Mason understands the team defense concepts better. But going forward, Hill should easily become the better defender. He has the perfect build to be a point guard stopper.

But no, they don't really guard similar players. Hill is good against the quicker point guards and has some success against the smaller shooting guards. Mason can guard the slower point guards well and he can also guard shooting guards and some small forward.

Hill is too short to guard Kobe. Mason probably can't really guard Kobe either ... but then again, Ray Allen had some success against Kobe last year in the finals and Mason is a similar build to Allen. Kobe is going to have to be guarded by Bowen again. The second option on him will probably have to be Mason since Udoka looked horrible against Kobe last year. The Spurs best chance is probably to stick Bowen on him and then keep a fresh defender such as Mason or Ginobili on him when Bowen rests. Too bad the Spurs didn't get a tall and quick player or a tall and physical player to put on Kobe . . .

To answer your final question, no Hill can't really be counted on to be a Bowen replacement. Maybe against some of the point guards Bowen usually guards such as Nash, CP3, DWill, etc. But Hill just doesn't have the size to guard shooting guards who are much bigger than players like AI and Ben Gordon.

George Hill excites me. It's good to be able to say that about a draftee that is not stashed over in Europe.

I've seen glimpses of Johnny Moore in this kid.

He has to become less scared in road games, now.

They still owe us Luis Scola and (possibly)Josh Howard. i'd say it's break even at this point.

Hill is not a bad pick, but I read in the nbadraftnet that he broke his foot and is now playing with screws in it, that is a little worrisome
This is my first response to the Hill pick. Jayc23 - is there any truth to this, I have not heard anything about it.

haha. most of y'all were just plain in' wrong. don't you just feel stupid now? :P
i guess this is a lesson to you all, that you should let a guy play before you criticize a spurs pick.

spurs = 2009 motha in champs.

He fractured it... tried to come back too early... reinjured it and prolonged his outing to season ending his sophmore season... he then aquired a medical red shirt which is why he was a 22 year old Junior... His foot is 100% healed... I believe when he broke it.. he tried to keep playing (tough as ?...but shouldn't have done that lol) .. then found out it was broken.. Hill played all of that off season with out incident and played with fire his whole junior year with no loss of mobility because of the foot.. so its a completely false rumor.

I know the Spurs do full medical and would not draft someone knowing about a problem, I just never got clarification on it. Thanks.

    What a ing joke Spurs.
The ing gayest pick in the draft.
    props to Mr. Bottomtooth.

what a weak pick. Arthur, Douglas-Roberts, Jordan, even freakin Chalmbers (who i hate) are all on the board you go with GEORGE FREAKIN HILL?
26 George Hill SA A bit of a tweener. Like Chalmers better

    http://sports-ak.espn.go.com/nbadraft/draftCast/index

man... so much potential left too..

    i love it.
