To draft Micheal Oher? Or it up, and draft a QB?

They need to trade that pick for more picks.

Without a marquee prospect, it's going to be extremely tough to trade out of the top spot. No one is going to want to pay that guaranteed salary.

While the draft picks are important(1st pick should come from these four; Orakpo, Oher, Monroe, Smith), the GM position is the most essential in rebuilding this pathetic franchise. Ideally, the first three picks should be something like Eugene Monroe/George Selvie/Duke Robinson or Andre Smith/James Laurenitis or Marcus Freeman/Tyson Jackson.

If they keep Mayhew/Lewand, then all hope is lost even though they did fleece the Cowboys...

Oher is undoubtedly the best LT prospect. He will be as good as Orlando Pace, book it. I was hoping the Raiders would suck enough to get him, but too many teams sucked this year. Now I am hoping for Smith, because I don't believe Monroe will be that great.

Michael Oher is not even near the top of the list of what they need. Plus, Oher has potential off the field issues. They obviously need help with the offensive line, but they have more pressing needs on defense. And, they need more help at the guard position rather than tackle. Duke Robinson or Herman Johnson might still be available with their second 1st round pick from Dallas.

I look at Rey Maualuga, Brian Orakpo, and James Laurinaitis even though all of them would be stretches at #1. If they can move down a couple spots and get another 3rd round pick, that would be perfect.

Teams are built in the trenches. Ask last years Pats and Giants. And LT is the most important position in the NFL. To waste a #1 pick on a guard is dumb.

I'm not advocating they take a guard with the #1 "overall" but with their second first round pick, which will be around #20. It's not that dumb when your starting guards are Edwin Mulitalo and Stephen Peterman.

And, it's stupid to take an OT when your team has more pressing needs than tackle. Jeff Backus may not be good, but he's average, while the Lion's DEs and ILB are horrible. . And, they drafted a right guard last year in the first round, Cherilus. The Lions give up 40 points a game. And, they're supposed to get another offensive player?

I agree you build from the trenches, and a DE is a defensive lineman. I would be perfectly happy with Brian Orakpo as the Lion's first pick. Then pick up a OL preferably a guard, DT, and ILB with the next three picks. They have four picks in the top 70 or so picks.

They're not going to take a QB, and that was one of your points in the first place.

What ever happened to Shaun Rodgers? Wasn't he suppose to run stuff? I would use that 20'ish pick to draft Filli Moala from USC.

Ohhhh, my bad, I forgot about that. I meant Corey Redding. Isn't he the highest paid DT?

Rogers basically was a malcontent who wanted out. Immense talent but he all but demanded a trade and was sent to Cleveland for CB Leigh Bodden.

And, Fili Moala is 290 at best. He isn't a run stuffer at the NFL level.

Redding is a converted DE. Another bone-headed move by Millen who overreacted to a great year Redding had a couple seasons ago. Redding is probably around 290 but would be fine at DT if he had a dominant guy playing next to him like Shaun Rogers. When he has another undersized DT next to him, he's not close to being as effective and certainly isn't one of the best DT in the game.
