we all know what the bcs has done to longhorn nation...the question is will colt mccoy eff things up even more by turning pro?

he's gonna turn in the papers to get evaluated but if he wins the hiesman, his stock can't get any higher. plus, we all know he takes some big hits, so why stay?

the question stands...if he declares, how bad will it be without colt mccoy next season...seriously, john chiles? dude can run, is about the nicest thing i can say about him.

I thought the decision had as much to do with the likelihood that the NFL's next collective bargaining agreement will include a rookie salary and bonus scale like the NBA's, and that boatloads of players are going to consider the jump now if the imposition of such a scale would cost them millions.

exactly. I don't think Colt is trying to "screw Texas".

He has to make sure he won't get "screwed" by the new agreement.

I dont think Colt's stock is all that high yet and a lot of teams have good QB's. I dont see it being a QB heavy draft this year but thats just me.

LOL dude those teams need a lot more than a QB IMO. I dont think the Rams are giving up on Bulger. The Lions gave Pepper some money so they might use keep him around next year. Chiefs ok I see that but that line needs some help. PLUS Matt Cassel is making a case for himself this year.

Baltimore gave Flacco a lot of money last year and he is doing ok. Miami has been good this year with Penn and that wildcat off. Orton in Chitown was good until he got hurt and Minn is fine with Ferotte.

so what's his motivation to come back? in all likelihood oklahoma wins the national le. Colt McCoy almost single-handedly beat them in the same season...if he wins the hiesman or is in the top 2, i think he's got nothing left to prove. does a shot at a conference le and legit national le outwiegh the possibility of getting injured? plus his long time buddy j-ship will be leaving...it's hard to ask the guy to say, isn't it?

Maybe, but I'd guess Culpepper's money isn't guaranteed and they'd drop him in a heartbeat for either Colt, Bradford, Chase Daniel, or Tim Tebow. Maybe the Rams don't give up on Bulger, but it'd sure be nice to have one of those 4tutor under him for a year or two. Matt Cassel will be a free agent and will get to choose who he plays for, instead of the other way around. Those teams don't have a shot at him. He'll be an Eagle next year.

I honestly see Colt going behind all of those guys in the draft for some reason so that would drop him to the 2nd or 3rd round.

i'm not saying mccoy will be an instant success...but there are a lot of nfl teams with issues...minnesota is NOT fine with gus, there is room for improvement with baltimore despite the $$$, buffalo philly houston kansas city seatlle have issues at starting qb and every team has problems at back up.

even at back up mccoy can help any one of these teams...someone goes down or has a bad game...you know how the nfl works, ask dovann mcnabb

I think screwed is a harsh word that implies he is trying to intentionally leave them hanging.

I think they are better off with him than without him for sure, but sooner or later he's gotta leave. May as well get Chiles some playing time

There are actually several QBs in the draft. Bradford will be out, Stafford, the QBs from Purdue, Clemson and Ball State are all highly regarded, Tebow might come out as might Sanchez, Cantwell from Louisville, Daniel, Harrell, JP Wilson, and honestly, don't forget about Bomar at Sam Houston.

I would say Colt would still be in the top 5, depending on what order you like, even if Bradford, Tebow and Sanchez all come out. Most people right now say the top 3 are Stafford, Bradford and Tebow in some order. I think Colt would be right around 3-5.

Yeah I know what your saying for some reason I just dont see Colt being that number 1 guy yet. If he does go to the draft I dont see a 1st rounder for him. I dont know what free agency holds this year yet but who knows with trades and what not. I dont see minn, bal, buff, houston making a play for QB. Dont get me wrong im a Houston fan and im ready for a change at that position but i know its not going to happen. KC, Seattle, and possible Philly will be looking for new blood. I think Tebow is going to be the first qb taken, then Bradford.

With that being said I see a lot of teams holding off on a QB for the later rounds. OL and Def is going to be heavy this year but who knows.

yeah, I've been hearing that Rhett Bhomar is moving up the draft charts fast.

If I'm a GM, I agree that I'd take Stafford as the first QB.

I see Colt being picked somewhere in the late 4th/early 5th round.

If he stays one more year and puts up the same numbers as this year do you think he will make it to a 1st round pick?

it was either after the missouri game or the oklahoma game that Colt said in an espn interview that he was coming back. i heard him on the dan patrick show around the say time deflect the question but indicated he wouldn't be turning pro...

...fast forward 30-60 days later and i would say its 50/50...

...john chiles has not gotten enough significant playing time to make anyone comfortable with him taking the reigns, after that you're talking players with zero experience leading a team expected to compete for a conference and national le...

awesome freshman season, sub-par sop re season, followed by an awesome junior season...and if he's bolts, the longhorns are left high and dry. you can call it protecting yourself or evaluating or whatever, but his intentions were to come back. if he leaves, texas is screwed at the qb position. and every longhorn fan thinks of jamaal charles and jermichael finely.

i guess it's unfair to colt a little. and i guess you are allowed to change your mind. maybe Texas should bench colt in the bowl game to get jc some snaps?
