Sources: 5 Blackwater guards charged in shooting
By MATT APUZZO and LARA JAKES JORDAN – 1 hour ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — Five Blackwater Worldwide security guards have been indicted and a sixth is in plea negotiations with prosecutors for a 2007 shooting in Baghdad.

Seventeen Iraqis were killed, and the shooting became an anti-American rallying cry for Iraqi insurgents.

People close to the case tell The Associated Press that a grand jury indicted five guards late Thursday. The indictment is sealed but prosecutors could make it public as early as Monday. All spoke on condition of anonymity because the case is sealed.

The exact charges were unclear, but prosecutors have been considering manslaughter and assault charges against the guards for weeks.

What doesn't become an anti-American rallying cry for Iraqi insurgents?

Your thread le is misleading. They didn't indict a company, they've apparently indicted 5 individuals that are accused of a crime. I wonder when the last time was that al Qaeda indicted or tried one of their own for any of the crimes they've committed against U.S. or Iraqi citizens...

Another example of America's absolute moral authority in this war. We actually investigate and prosecute crimes committed by our people.

I wonder, have you ever uttered that phrase in relationship to anything unfortunate happening to a terrorist?

    Just curious.

Good to see Yonnivore came out of his GOP cave he was hiding in after the Election.

You can't just shoot anyone you want to just because you think they did something. Even in the German war people had to be accounted for their crimes.

I wonder when the last time was that al Qaeda indicted or tried one of their own for any of the crimes they've committed against U.S. or Iraqi citizens...

Apples and oranges. They don't have to abide by any laws they don't even belong to the Geneva convention. Backwater is a cooperation that pays taxes and is under the laws of this country. It's like trying to take some native in Africa to court for killing a Mockingbird it just isn't going to happen.

on another note this very well may be better since we shouldn't have to worry about following the rules when we send a bunker buster missile and kill 50 or more al Qaeda men playing cards in the desert.

The bottom line American used to Atom bomb on the wrong county.

And the GOP wonders why the rest of the U.S..or the world for that matter hates them.

It's their stupid ed up Hannity-Limbaugh logic.

Why do you choose to jump out of your little hole now Yonni?

Killing INNOCENT civilians is wrong no matter which way you look at it...

How deep is your understanding of the problem my friend?

No sunni and the majority of the Shiites favored the takedown of Saddam, the fact of the matter is Saddam would have never allowed such a bloody civil war to take place. Close to a million iraqis have died due to this bloody conflict started by us...who the are you to decide what the Iraqi people want and don't want? You think they actually want a tank in their back yard?
The saddest part of it is that most of the casualties are just those caught in the crossfire victimized by the bombers cowardly enough to target schools and mosques.

I guarantee you that the world, and the Iraqi people would have prefferred Sadaam to stay in power. He was a dictator, and a brutal one at that too, but he knew how to take care of his country.

We are not the World Police nor should we act like it, its no surprise that our founding fathers emphasized Neutrality so much.

there were 6. one has already pleaded guilty to manslaughter and voluntary manslaughter. he cut a deal to testify against the others.

the reason they turned themselves in in utah is because they hope to get a change of venue to salt lake city. only one of them is from utah and that probably won't fly. prosecutors are planning to try them as a group.

ehhh....maynbe you should take some US history. and i dont mean teh kind just taught in middle school where we learn about the cons ution and george washington. america has been policing the world for pretty much its whole existence. we have been in a conflict of one type or another for the overwhelming majority of the existence of the US.

and ohj yeah, cool hand without knowing you, i dont know your exact experiences you had over there. but i was pretty mcuh under the impression taht that war was fought completely different with a completely different objective. also i dont believe yall were forced to collaborate with iraqis on missions. maybe you have, again i am admitting my ignorance on that subject. but teh way i see it, comparing the gulf war to this one is like apples to oranges.

and desert plains, in taht case lets go back and change all the history books and monuments. bc vietnam sure as hel lwasnt a "war" neither was korea. but ask anyone who was there and im sure theyll disagree.

either way im going to stpo posting in this thread and this forum probably as well. it seems all anyone here does, myself included, is run around in circles wtihought actually wanting to listen to what the other side says. haha not that im sure anyone cares.
