wouldn't that be sleet? doesn't it hail when it rains? i've never witnessed or heard of it just hailing?
I thought I heard hail also, but when I looked out it was raining with frozen rain mixed in. It was tiny, but really loud.

it was snowing in France yesterday too.
Thats all I got, I heard it against my windows.
HAIL
Precipitation that originates in convective clouds, such as ulonimbus, in the form of balls or irregular pieces of ice, which comes in different shapes and sizes. Hail is considered to have a diameter of 5 millimeter or more; smaller bits of ice are classified as ice pellets, snow pellets, or graupel.
SLEET
Also known as ice pellets, it is winter precipitation in the form of small bits or pellets of ice that rebound after striking the ground or any other hard surface.
FREEZING RAIN
Rain that falls as liquid and freezes upon impact to form a coating of glaze on the colder ground or other exposed surfaces.
SNOW
Frozen precipitation in the form of white or translucent ice crystals in complex branched hexagonal form. It most often falls from stratiform clouds, but can fall as snow showers from uliform ones. It usually appears clustered into snowflakes
My roommate, Alyssa, and I saw sleet on our back porch and decided to call it snow since that is probably the closest thing we'll get to it.![]()
I see snow at least 30-40 days out of the year.
No biggie for me.
It is funny to watch people who are not used to driving in such conditions drive in them.
Katy - you got sleet not hail. Hail is formed by different dynamics. Please dont ever make me say Viva is right again. Please.
Oh my gosh. I hate posters like you that rain on our snow parade. gtfo.
Snow parade????
Most people here like to see snow, excpet for the people that see it all the time and have to shovel it from time to time, scrape it off their car every so often, track it through buildings, etc...
I do like the first snowfall of the year, its the rest of the time I could do with out it.
You can go back to your snow parade now. Tell Frosty the snowman I said o![]()
Steve Brown says we thinks we had hail last night since there was lightning and that is a sign of a convective storm which have the updrafts that cause hail so I was wrong Katy and you were right. This makes me happy cause Viva was wrong too. YES.
Never will I doubt you again Katy.
Of course the moron on one of the local Austin TV stations said "we could have another winter weather event" next Tuesday.
1st time in nearly two years Austin saw a measurable amount of snow (0.1") , first time in 12 it saw snow in December.
We always have snow here in Montreal, so.......
This was directed to the mostly South Texans on the board, we don't get snow that much, more so San Antonio.
We definitely got snow. It was mixed with the rain, but it was falling slowly.
I know
Just wanted to chime in![]()
i saw some snow falling when i was leaving the bar last night. pretty rare.
Was it annular?
Got a few small flurries in Houston tonight. Nothing that stuck, but it was still exciting.
You guys are easily amused.
Actually now that you bring that up, I'm wondering if the end of season reports are out. I'm gonna go find out!
Nope, not out yet.
I have no idea what the you're talking about. Is that like the BCS for weather?
Yep, a couple of weeks ago.
I was in the Belgium Ardennes last weekend and it was stacked over there.
