Spurs go for sixth straight win vs. Thunder

(Sports Network) - The San Antonio Spurs will try to extend their season high winning streak to six games tonight when they welcome the lowly Oklahoma City Thunder to the AT&T Center.

San Antonio posted its fifth straight win with Friday's 98-86 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Target Center, as Tim Duncan led the way with 17 points and 13 rebounds. In six games this month Duncan is averaging 22.0 points and 12.6 boards.

Tony Parker also finished with 17 points and nine assists, while Manu Ginobili scored 16 points for the Spurs, who have won 14 of 19 games since opening the campaign with a brutal 0-3 mark.

The Spurs are 7-5 as the host this season.

Oklahoma City is still winless in December, having lost all six games in the month to fall to an NBA-worst 2-22 on the season. It will close out a short two-game road trip tonight in San Antonio a day after suffering a 103-99 setback at Dallas.

Jeff Green scored 25 points and Kevin Durant totaled 22 and eight rebounds for the Thunder, who have dropped four in a row on the road and are 1-11 away from the Ford Center this season. Russell Westbrook ended with 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists in defeat.

The Thunder are 2-11 against Western Conference foes.

San Antonio, which is 11-5 in conference play this season, went 2-1 against Seattle/Oklahoma City a year ago and has won 10 of 12 and 17 of the last 21 meetings. The Sonics/Thunder have lost six straight and nine of the last 10 games as the visitor in this series.

Thunder are an horrible team. If Spurs are half serious, it won't be even close.

I went to the Miami-OKC game, OKC is really terrible. Like Bruno said, if the spurs are decently focused they should win easily.

Does that mean they haven't even beaten an East team yet? Ouch.

    Gameday: Spurs vs. Thunder
    By Joe Alexander

The Spurs will try to extend their already season-long win streak to six games when they take on the Oklahoma City Thunder at the AT&T Center.

The Spurs are 5-1 in the month of December, with their only loss this month coming at the hands of the Detroit Pistons.

Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili, who are both getting closer to full speed, have combined to average 36.4 points and 11.6 assists per game during the Spurs' current win streak.

The Thunder, on the other hand, have only two wins on the season, have lost their last six and recently fired their head coach - former Spurs assistant P.J. Carlesimo.

Here's the latest on the Thunder:

    Mike Balwin, Daily Oklahoman
All season, Thunder players have talked about playing 48 minutes. They discovered Saturday night at American Airlines Center what can happen if they play four solid quarters. They can compete with a veteran Mavericks team, on the road, start to finish.

    Benefactor should make it.

He's undefeated as of the last game so he should keep on making 'em threads.

    NOTABLE

Spurs are looking to extend their season-high winning streak to six games. ... They have held 18 of their past 20 foes below 100 points. ... This is the teams’ first meeting since the Thunder — the former Sonics — moved from Seattle during the offseason.

    - Jeff McDonald
I like the starting lineup. Nice. I hope this game will get the chance for Mason to showcase a little and that Tony looks for him.

“We’re going to win some games,” said Thunder interim coach Scott Brooks
I wonder if he tapped his heels together when he said that.
