I hear the ones that do not require wires are pretty wireless.
I need a new one. Any recommendations?

yeah. go buy a newer one than the one you got.
i always got netgear or linksys stuff. i use an apple airport express for my wireless windows stuff at home now.
Ive always just used linksys or netgear. Both are easy to use and set up.
im runnin a netgear atm, so far no problems....very reliable
I've used Netgear and Linksys without problems...
I recommend that you post this in the /geek forum

Another Netgear owner here, and I love it.
used to have a 4port d-link and it was garbage! the 360 used to always lag or disconnect when online. made the switch to linksys and never had any issues...I got a belkin g plus mimo for 25$ if someone wants it

i know i know
Linksys hasn't let me down.
And don't s out for an N-capable router unless you're sure you have an N-capable computer.
The G-band routers tend to be about 50 bucks less than the Ns.
I have a belkin and it works fine but the interface isn't as good as I'd like.
I use NetGear and it works just fine.
I currently have a Linksys WRT54G (ver. 2) running Tomato firmware, and it's pretty good. If you are interested in using an alternative firmware, do some research and buy a compatible router.
My Netgear crapped out on me the other night and I was having trouble with disconnects with that one. There is a decent Dynex I'm looking at. Anyone have experience with this brand?
I need to buy one as well, and I don't give a dang what it will be - I just need it to work, nothing else.
+1
G band is the way to go given the price difference.
I bought a Linksys model # WRT54G2 V1 a couple months ago and it's been solid as a rock.
I have a couple buddies with a Dynex router and I know they've had some minimal trouble getting Netflix to stream to their XBOX wirelessly. I'm not sure whether this is related to the Dynex router or not, but really, that's all I know about Dynex so that's my 2 cents.
netflix streams just on the 360 with the linksys....with the d-link I had issues of all sorts...also if you want an almost link new router Poland let me know 25 bucks
Does anyone know if the difference between the mbps transfer rates make a big difference in speed?
Sure it does, but the 54 mbps you get with the G band routers should be more than enough speed for just browsing, streaming and the occasional download. Any extra speed you get with the N band isn't going to be worth it unless you're going to be doing a lot of media downloads wirelessly.
Just do what I do, buy a wireless usb adapter and steal your neighbors connection and download all the porn and free mp3's you can muster.
There is a Dynex Enhanced G router that gets up to 125mbps transfer rate and it's about $50. I do A LOT of downloading.
I tried already. All the signals I get are locked.
I was the opposite, My linksys always gave me issues and when I got a Dlink everything work perfect.
I got this one
