A defensive player hasn't won NFL MVP since Lawrence Taylor. And this year, no offensive player has really done anything to be a clear cut MVP candidate.

Should D-Ware start getting some serious consideration? He's 4 sacks away from breaking Strahan's record, and he does a whole lot more than just rush the passer.

He should but I don't think he would win. I do think he has a great shot at DPOY.

During the ans Texans game they were talking about Haynesworth for MVP.

I think the 3 best MVP candidates are Ware, Peterson, and Warner. And I don't really know if Peterson or Warner are dominating at their positions the way Ware dominates at his.

Ware dominates whether he's rushing the passer, stuffing the run, or going out into coverage. If he breaks Strahan's record, I think he's far and away the league's MVP.

Cowboys have to make the playoffs first. Right now, the front runner is Peterson, especially after yesterdays game.

Matt Ryan would get a nod before Ware. Although I think Ware is the best defensive player in the league hands down.

Nice that he's playing well. I'd like to see him win Super Bowl MVP, but otherwise I don't care.

Seriously. What player has made a bigger impact on a team than Ryan? Where were the Falcons without him last year?

    Ryan definitely deserves consideration.

I'd give Michael Turner consideration, but not Matt Ryan. Ryan's played well but his numbers aren't MVP-worthy.

7 out of 9 Falcons victories, Turner has rushed for over 100 yards. Another win he had 96 yards. I'd say he's made the biggest impact on the Falcons this season, not Matt Ryan.

If that's the case, Peyton is MVP. Without him, they're about 3-11 and he hasn't had a pro-bowl RB like the Falcons have.

    MVP of the Cowboys team.

Defensive player of the year is very likely.

I get your point of view, and agree about the impact, but team impact does not make an MVP.

Right now you don't WANT to be in the MVP talk:
    Early MVP candidates -
    Portis; "My coach hates me."
Warner; " o, comms? This is the SS Zona and we are taking on water fast."
    Haynesworth; "Ouch!"

I think Peterman is a candiate simply because he has the most yards of anyone.
I also don't think you can count out Peyton, especially if they win out (which would be 8 in a row).
Another someone to consider (especially if you want to count in what he means to team) is Pennington, who will undoubtedly get the comeback award.
    What about Big Ben?

    Just a small correction. It'd be 9

If a defensive player is to win MVP this year; it seems the Steelers would have something to say about it...they have a historically good defense this year; Polamalu?

Harrison's the more important player on that DEF.

Joey Porter leading the AFC in sacks on a team that won 1 game last year and looks to be headed for the playoffs in the most remarkable turnaround in NFL history.

Ware is leading the NFL in sacks on a team that most favored to win the SB and yet is fighting for a playoff spot.

Harrison, Haynesworth, Jenkins and Ware have been the best defensive players this year.

Ware will be hurt by the fact that there is a ton of talent on the Cowboys and they played like when Romo was hurt.

Joey Porter isn't capable of doing anything but rushing the passer.

Demarcus Ware is the most complete linebacker in the NFL.

    Big difference.

That's odd, because on a better D (Pitt), Harrison has more tackles than Ware (94-74) including more solos, 4 less sacks yet 3 more forced fumbles (7-4) plus an interception returned for 33 yards and additionally more passes defended.

Seems like the stats say Harrison is the more complete LB, and I just picked the next guy on the list.

Not to mention all the wasted votes Brees and Favre will get.
