Bernstein/Getty Stephon Marbury talks to reporters at halftime of the Knicks-Lakers game Tuesday night.

Graham/Getty Nate Robinson nets 33 for the Knicks in the losing effort.

LOS ANGELES - Stephon Marbury discovered a loophole in his indefinite ban from the Knicks: He purchased a ticket.
Yes, the Marbury saga continues and is getting more bizarre with each passing day. Of course, Marbury wouldn't have it any other way.

"This is exactly why we sent him away in the first place," said one Knicks official.

Marbury, ordered to stay away from the Knicks until a buyout agreement is reached, attended his team's 116-114 loss to the Lakers Tuesday night as a paying customer. During a rambling halftime interview with a dozen reporters, Marbury revealed that he has been in contact with several clubs and claims he will be signed once he is released.

"All I've got to do is get free," Marbury said. "Once I get free, the team I'm going to go to, I think a lot of people will be shocked. All the people that say nobody wants me on their team... I'm all of these different things...Frank Isola said I'm a cancer ... I'm doing my thing though."
Asked if that means that basketball is no longer his thing, Marbury said, "I'm doing my thang."

Marbury saw the Knicks blow a 15-point halftime lead and fall to 11-14. Nate Robinson led the Knicks with 33points but he missed a potential go-ahead layup with 10 seconds left. David Lee added 18 points and 14 rebounds and Chris Duhon added 12 but missed a halfcourt shot at buzzer.
Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 28points as all five Los Angeles starters scored in double figures. The Lakers, playing without Pau Gasol (strep throat), improved to 21-3. The Lakers trailed for 35 minutes before taking the lead with six minutes left.

Marbury's surprise appearance is not in violation of the team's ruling, according to coach Mike D'Antoni. The veteran point guard owns a home in the Los Angeles area and says he is here on business. He also had hinted for days that he would attend the game.

To many of Marbury's teammates, his presence shows how desperate he is to remain relevant and just how far he'll go to pressure the Knicks into releasing him.

"I didn't create this," Marbury said of being exiled. "This is all their doing as far as what they're doing."

D'Antoni started the process of removing Marbury from the roster when he didn't play him on opening night. D'Antoni didn't want Marbury backing up Duhon, so now Marbury is serving as e Lee's understudy. A case could be made that the Knicks have two unofficial mascots: e and Stephon.
In November, Marbury twice declined to play and was subsequently fined and suspended for one game. On Dec.1, Knicks president Donnie Walsh made the decision to send Marbury home indefinitely once buyout negotiations broke down. Marbury stormed out of a meeting with Walsh 15 minutes after it began.

The only thing odder than the score was the sight of Marbury, the estranged Knicks guard, who had not been around the team since Nov. 26, the night he declined to play against Detroit. He was suspended two days later, then ordered to stay away from the team until he was waived or bought out of his contract.

Marbury sat in the corner farthest from the Knicks’ bench.
“I came out here to work out, to train,” said Marbury, who owns a home here.

Marbury’s rooting interest was not exactly clear. He spent much of the game talking on his cellphone. And while e Lee, sitting nearby, frequently jumped and cheered, Marbury sat stoically all evening.
With no apparent progress on a contract buyout, Marbury said he was prepared to sit out the season. He said he had a team lined up to sign him if the Knicks ever granted his release. “The team that I’m going to go to, I think a lot of people will be shocked,” he said with a smile.
Marbury was exiled after he twice declined to play when the Knicks were short-handed. The ban applied only to practices and games, so Marbury did not violate any edicts by purchasing a ticket.

“That’s fine,” D’Antoni said before the game. “About 19,000 people are going to be there tonight, so if he wants to see a good game, that’s great.”

When word spread that Marbury would be in attendance, several Knicks players rolled their eyes and quietly wondered why, weeks after being
sent away, he would create another spectacle.

But Richardson, an outspoken critic of Marbury, smiled and shrugged.
“Am I surprised or puzzled? I don’t really think much about it, man,” he said. “My thing is, we were here playing the Lakers. I guess he was a face in the crowd. I didn’t know he was there.”

The Knicks are enjoying a newfound compe iveness and camaraderie this season, and a positive atmosphere that stems, in part, from D’Antoni’s decision to push the volatile Marbury to the side two months ago. It would take more than buying a courtside seat for Marbury to ruin the mood now.
“I hope he enjoyed it,” Richardson said. “It was a good game.”

Marbury sits courtside, says he's in no rush

Stephon Marbury - G - NY - Dec. 17 - 10:03 am et Stephon Marbury sat courtside at the Knicks vs. Lakers game on Tuesday. When interviewed at halftime, he sounded comfortable sitting out all season.
"I'm earning my check by doing nothing," Marbury said. "I'm enjoying it to the fullest." He also said that if he is cut loose "people will be shocked" by the team he signs with -- speculation has it that Phoenix, which has an open roster spot and needs a backup point guard, is interested. We should make this a V-Bookie. Where is Marbury going to end up. LOL

Odds are it's Phoenix. But then he always did express an interest in playing for Italy.

Yeah, FSN gave him an interview during the game last night. The entire thing was awkward to say the least.

Saw that on NBA TV, they hit him up for an interview on the sidelines. For whatever issues he definitely has as a player he's done a pretty good job of looking like the good guy with the media. What was even more interesting was the interview with Alyssa Milano regarding her sportwear line. I was really impressed with her business a en. Oh, and her s.

Sure as won't be the Rockets. We got Francis and everyone remember what happened last time you put Marbury and Francis together. They are both the same type of player and Francis is on his way back.

    Agreed and fixed a little.

I'd welcome Starbury with open arms at the MLE or vet minimum.

"Business" His $15 dollar shoe line?

There is a rumor that he met with Jeannie Buss and it was in the LA Times but was quickly removed from print.

    Strange "coincidences" I believe.

We already traded him away once for being a cancerous delinquent. Why would they resign him?
