I say he's stupid for setting himself on fire. Hopefully he got used to that whole burning sensation though, cause he'll be feeling that for awhile.

Covina, CA (AP) -- Stinging from an acrimonious divorce, a man plotting revenge against his ex-wife dressed up like Santa, went to his former in-laws' Christmas Eve party and slaughtered at least eight people before killing himself hours later.
Bruce Pardo's ex-wife and her parents were believed to be among the dead. Investigators planned to return to the scene Friday and sift through the ashes of the home, which Pardo set ablaze using a bizarre homemade device that sprayed flammable liquid.
Pardo, 45, had no criminal record and no history of violence, according to police, but he was angry following last week's settlement of his divorce after a marriage that lasted barely a year.
``It was not an amicable divorce,'' police Lt. Pat Buchanan said.
Pardo chose to exact his revenge at the annual Christmas party his former in-laws held at their two-story home on a cul-de-sac in a quiet Covina neighborhood 25 miles east of Los Angeles.
``Christmases were that special time of the year, it meant so much to them,'' Rosa Ordaz, a family friend of the victims, told KCBS-TV.
In past years, a neighbor dressed as Santa Claus and entertained guests. But the neighbor had moved away and there was no Santa - until Pardo arrived around 11:30 p.m.
The massacre began when an 8-year-old girl answered Pardo's knock at the door. Pardo, carrying what appeared to be a large present, pulled out a handgun and shot her in the face, then began shooting indiscriminately as about 25 partygoers tried to flee, police said at a news conference.
A 16-year-old girl was shot in the back, and a 20-year-old woman broke her ankle when she escaped by jumping from a second-story window. Those two, and the 8-year-old, remained hospitalized Christmas Day. All were expected to recover.
The gift-wrapped box Pardo was carrying actually contained a pressurized homemade device he used to spray a liquid that quickly sent the house up in flames. Police said Pardo had recently worked is the aerospace industry.
David Salgado, a neighbor, said he saw the 8-year-old victim being escorted to an ambulance by four SWAT team members as flames up to 40 feet high consumed the house.
``It was really ugly,'' Salgado said.
Another neighbor, Jan Gregory, said she saw a teenage boy flee the home, screaming, ```They shot my family.'''
When the fire was extinguished early Thursday, officers found three charred bodies in the living room area.
``They were met with a scene that was just indescribable,'' police Chief Kim Raney said. Investigators found five more bodies amid the ashes later in the day and planned to return Friday to continue looking.
None of the dead or missing has been identified. Authorities were unable to immediately determine whether the victims were killed by the flames or the gunfire.
Following the shootings, Pardo quickly got out of the Santa suit and drove off, witnesses told police. He went to his brother's home about 25 miles away in the Sylmar area of Los Angeles. No one was home, so Pardo let himself in, police said.
Police were called to the home early Thursday, and officers found Pardo dead of a single bullet to the head. Two handguns were found at the scene, and two more were discovered in the wreckage of his former in-laws' house.
A car that Pardo apparently parked near his brother's home exploded Thursday evening and more ammunition was found in it, Los Angeles police Sgt. Francisco Wheeling said. She had no immediate details on what set off the explosion. No one was hurt.
Investigators seeking further information about Pardo's motives have begun searching his home in the suburban Los Angeles community of Montrose.
Pardo's next-door neighbor, who did not want her name published to protect her privacy, said he moved in more than a year ago with a woman and a child. She said they kept mostly to themselves and the woman later moved out with the child.
Pardo was often seen walking a dog around the neighborhood and working on his lawn, the neighbor said.
He also served regularly as an usher at evening Mass at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montrose, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Jan Detanna, the head usher at the church, was stunned when told about the violence.
``I'm just - this is shocking,'' Detanna told the Times. ``He was the nicest guy you could imagine. Always a pleasure to talk to, always a big smile.''
Bong Garcia, another of Pardo's next-door neighbors, told the Times he saw Pardo between 9 and 10 p.m. Christmas Eve and spoke briefly to him. Pardo told him he was on his way to a Christmas party, Garcia said.

Yeah. He had 15,000 in cash and a plane ticket to Canada. He would've bounced if he didn't melt his Santa suit to his arms.
I'm normally pretty open to the other side of the story when it comes to tales of macabre violence, but this is beyond too much. What a sick this guy was. Poor people.

if he is angry at his wife and her parents, why shoot an 8 year old girl and other innocent people at the party?
the answer is, you don't do that. anyone knows that. he isn't sick and twisted, he went insane. common sense tells us that you would just want to hurt your ex-wife and then kill yourself, AND THE END. just your wife. so obviously he wasn't using his common sense anymore. human minds can be fragile sometimes. some people just lose control and go insane.
so, the question is, what drove this man to a clear case of insanity?
i wonder what she did to him..

This guy planned it out, Made the device to set fire to the house and even bought a plane ticket and had cash, someone insane does not plan on getting away and living a new life in Canada, they just snap and act, spur of the moment.
Insanity does not = spur of the moment. You are confusing insanity with a crime of passion or temporary insanity.
I said this man went insane. You can still function as an insane person (think, live, build) but the things you DO while insane...well, read what the guy did in the article.
He didn't even TRY to go to canada. He drove to his brothers house and offed himself.

I think this was a act of rage. He was in a messy divorce from a marriage that lasted less than a year. Could be he flipped out because she took all his money and he got angry enough to do something very stupid. He was a coward for shooting a 8 year old girl in the face.
Obviously the guy went crazy. Who the shoots a little girl in the face?? on Christmas?
a guy who volunteers at his church and has never had a criminal record? I wonder what she did to him to drive him insane where his mind isn't even working correctly anymore.
She married him and the marriage didn't even last 1 year. She has a child from a previous relationship. She screwed him in the divorce settlement.

- She probably faked her way into his heart. He fell in love with her and she was just tricking him to secure $$$ for her and her child.
- He was really nice to her, took the little girl as his own daughter. All that stereotypical stuff.
- Once they got married, the visage came to a halt. She turned into Queen . probably treated him like crap, maybe she cheated on him?
- He now realizes what she did to him.
- Divorce time! Gimme $$$! She gets paid and walks away.
- His life is ruined, she tricked him, he is heartbroken, she willfully deceived him and married him and maybe even cheated on him.
- She probably laughs at him. haha, thanks for the $$, loser!
- He is pissed off. He now HATES her. Love is gone. That has my Fing money and she Fing USED me. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
- Who knows what else she did. The guy went insane. Hate is replaced with insanity. Begins planning to kill her, F IT! She's not getting away with this! Ahhhhh.

- Day comes, he turns into Rambo and goes overboard. Shoots everyone in there and burns her damn house down. He's totally out of his mind about now.
- Drives to his brother's house, decides he really doesn't want to escape. Life sucks. His life is ruined, he loved her and she tricked him, life sucks, *bang in the head*

which makes him imo viable for being strung, hung, drawn, stabbed and quartered for shooting an 8 year old in the face.

I'm just trying to say that he was insane. I don't think this is a psychopath crazy sick twisted man type of case.
From what little I know, I think it was a case of a normal man who was driven to insanity. He was mentally weak and stopped thinking clearly.
He off himself because he burned himself badly, kind of hard to get on a plane with peeling skin. If he goes to the hospital they connect him to it.

he set his sleeves on fire, he sprayed all that around the house, but he didn't account for candles that were lit, or a pilot light. He suffered third degree burns to his hands
How did you conclude that the wife tricked him, treated him like , cheated on him, etc?
Maybe he was just a psycho all along and finally acted on his psycho tendencies.
Sorry when I first read it, I was at work and it said that the device he was using to set the house on fire exploded when the vapors more than likely got ignited by a stove.

I don't know anything about this case. So I was asking how you concluded that because I thought maybe there were reports that she had been the one that filed for divorce, screwed him out of money in the divorce, etc.
So you read a story about a man who goes on a killing spree and your first guess is that his wife must've been so mean she drove him to it?
You're confusing insanity with being a sociopath. An insane person kills because voices tell him to do it or the radio says it's a good idea, and he has no ability to differentiate reality from his hallucinations. A sociopath kills because he's an angry bag. It's pretty clear which case this one falls under.
