I'm happy with Hill, I wouldn't have wanted anybody instead of him now that I've seen his potential..
there wouldn't be chemistry with Mahinmi though, because he doesn't play..
Did the spurs want to draft Nick Batum? I mean, if he was available, would we have chosen him? He would be handy and can fill a position we need.
I like the looks of him and can't help but imagine the good team chem that he, TP and Mahinmi would bring if together.
I googled his name with 'san anotnio' and found this link. Dunno if it's already been brought up but it's worth a quick read for Batum fans:

I wish we had him but oh well!

I traded Oberto for him on my 2k9 association game and Manu did not even raise an effing word.
But yeah, how it's worked out, the Spurs got lucky by getting Hill. Batum is going to be a pretty damn good player down the line but he wouldn't help out the Spurs right now as much as Hill.
Batum's per minute stats are almost exactly the same as the Spurs get from Udoka. And with Mason, RMJ, Finley and Bowen on the wings, he'd probably be getting Udoka like minutes. That's especially true because this season Pop has valued scoring more than usual.
The difference this season between Batum and what the Spurs have without him isn't nearly as big as the difference between Hill and Vaughn. That said, not having Batum will hurt when Bowen loses his effectiveness.
The good news in all this is the Spurs' scouts nailed the draft. Identifying Batum and Hill as picks at that spot in the first round was impressive![]()
Batum could have finally been the mythic long 3. I think we might be better with Batum in the long run but obviously that's hard to say for sure. Also, P-town is so loaded it's hard for him to find minutes there I would imagine. I think he offers a true 3 that we don't have much of, so he might have got more minutes here than with the Blazers.
Still, nothing wrong at all with Hill. He looks to be a great backup for us for 4 years.
it would of benn nice to draft him, hill, and gist
I hear what your saying. A backup point for Tony Parker over Batum who would clearly be a starter next season on this roster. We would clearly have that guy who could fly thru the lanes and smash that rock. While Roger and Manu dissect ya launching 3s from all over. Timmy might have to make a little room for someone like Batum. And I aint dogging Hill. Hes a great kid. But the talent and potential Batum has shown isnt so bad either.
If I had to pick right now Batum or Hill for these Spurs team today, I think I would pick Hill 99 times out of 100
Batum was, without question, my preferred choice for the Spurs. Of course, I had on idea of Hill or his abilities. Hill has been a virtual god-send at the backup PG position. My greedy sides wishes they could've landed both, but I know that was almost impossible.
In the meantime, the Spurs are still without a player of Batum's size, skill, and ability. There is no one on the current roster or in the pipeline, who has the package that this kid has. The need for such a player grows with every passing year. It's troubling to me that Bowen is still the team's best perimeter defender, at age 38!
I'm hopeful the Spurs will keep their eye on the Batum situation. That perhaps the Spurs can obtain him in a year or two or after when he hits the market in a few years.

Without Hill, Mason would have played backup PG (providing Spurs had made the same offseason choices if they had drafted Batum instead of Hill).
Nothing wrong with Greed. Not when it comes to wanting to make the Spurs better right now and in the future. Kinda hard really to make a choice. I dont pay much attention to the Blazers like I do the Spurs. No other team has gotten my attention this season. Because I seen enough of the real West Top Teams last season. Other then the Suns right now, everyone is better. Only time I really get to see the Blazers is on the News. And they do show alot of Batum. And Batum is on a team that has alot of talent. So for him to get a few clips inbetween the usual Roys tells me alot. We already had a young point guard of the future. TP
batum is starting for portland(way more talent on that team than spurs). He has been very good in the minutes he plays(usually not a lot). He was out standing against the spurs and lakers. A tayshaun prince with more athleticism.
hill is good, but we have 4 other guards who play more than him, our 2 SF don't play a lot of minutes.
I think Batum would have been better for us.
So what? He was taken before the Spurs got to pick.
