He's playing better because he's being utilized better. No more having him stand around as a weakside spot-up shooter.
So as Mavs fans, I think we all agree that this year's Jason Kidd is a vast improvement over last year's version. Watching the games you can really tell how much better he looks.
Yet his numbers across the board are down from last year's numbers with Dallas.
These numbers are only from his time in Dallas, not NJ.
PPG
last year - 9.9
this year - 8.6
RPG
last year - 6.4
this year - 6.4 (kinda expected this to go up since he's not just camping at the 3 anymore like Avery made him)
APG
last year - 9.5
this year - 8.5
FG%
last year - .426
this year - .413
3PT%
last year - .461
this year - .368
FT attempts
last year - 1.9
this year - 1.2
This year he's up a bit in steals and blocks, and has less turnovers per game.
Have we been overrating Kidd's effectiveness, or has he really been very good despite the stats saying otherwise? BTW, Hollinger has his PER higher this season, for whatever that's worth.
He's playing better because he's being utilized better. No more having him stand around as a weakside spot-up shooter.
lately he has hit kind of a slump ive noticed. lets see if he stays this way, or if he bounces back to the way he was playing earlier in the year
Maybe Hollinger's PER has him rated higher because of less turnovers. He was commiting a lot of those even in NJ last year.
I honestly am not much of a fan of Kidd. He'll have one great game or one great play once in a while but to me the guy is pretty much washed up. I am kind of in a minority here, because most Mavs fans still want to cheer for the guy, but there are so many games or times during a game when he does nothing important really. Given that JHo has gone into a completely lazy mode, and tries absolutely no movements without the ball, Kidd's weaknesses are even more evident. If Jho would move a bit more, and Kidd could find him with lobs or backdor passes, which is what I thought would happen when Kidd initially came here, maybe Kidd would look a bit better but as of right now I see very little out of him.
Kidd is fine, he is far from the problem on this team
He needs to hit his open 3s. Being completely offensively nonexistant is not going to cut it.
I don't think he's playing that bad when I've seen them, running the team, dictating tempo. But, jesus, can the guy not score in double digits anymore? In 24 of the 34 games, he's scored in single digits. I mean, I know he's not going to threaten for the scoring le or anything and he's probably not taking a lot of shots, but he still has to be a threat to score.
Kidd with another huge late game steal on Eric Gordon, its his defense that has been execptional this season. He has peserved numerous wins this season with plays like that
1 point last game, 3 tonight. I think he's in a slump, but if we're going to call out the other players, Kidd needs to be called out too in that regard.
Only constant offense is from Dirk, with contributions from Terry and sometimes from a mentally unstable JHo. Not enough.
That's true. It's nice to see a smart player on a team littered with mental midgets.
Well he has to make up for Bass and J-Ho being on the floor late in game...stupid Carlisle![]()
With Kidd, I'm surprised the Mavs don't run more. Being in the lower half of the league in pace doesn't make much sense when you have one of the best open court players in NBA history. Barea is also good in the open court and Dirk is fast as for a seven-footer.
Perhaps the argument against it would be a lack of finishers on the fast break, but then again players don't get much more athletic than Green and Singleton. I might be wrong but to me it looks like the Mavs would be best if they went small with Dirk at center, played their athletes more and just let Kidd push it. Using Kidd in a slow paced offense seems like a waste of talent . . .
I agree. We're not going to win a le as constructed, but I think that style would get the best results.
it seems that kidd has droped a lot from last season.
I just don't understand why he doesn't have the confidence that our beloved mavs are not going to win a le. Finley is a great player in terms of his whole career and he deserves a championship ring which he had already got with the spurs, and Kidd also deserves one but he hasn't yet got his.
Where there is a hope, there is a way. please shut up and stop saying these words against our beloved mavs please. I am a die-hard mavs fan now.
