I would say it's a generational thing. A few decades ago, we were fresh off the Civil Rights movement and with the freedom to compete against whites in society for jobs and social status, parents gave their children names like David and Jessica. Now, with affirmative action gone done levelin' the playin' field, parents want to get back to their heritage and give their children names like Jamarcus Russell and LaBrandon Toefield.
why should they conform to the white mans ways? let them do what they want.

I would say you stand correct on the Civil Rights/Affirmative action issue, but how is LaBrandon an African descended name? Isn't Brandon a European name and "La" a Spanish/French definite article?

It's easy, and fun.
All you gotta do is take a "normal" (white) name. Then add a prefix, or a suffix, preferrably with at least one of the letters J, L, K, Z, Q, or V.
For example:
David.
Add "Vra" and an apostrophe.
Vra'David.
You now have a common 21st century black name.
Orrr you can do combinations.
I plan on using this naming method for my first born, it will give him mad street cred.
What about white actors and the names they come up with?

There are about six white kids with the name "ESPN". So this isn't a race thing.

What will really suck are all the morons naming their babies after Obama in some way. Imagine the torment that kid would go through if he did turn out to be some radical terrorist or the anti-christ. Alot of people are selfish and are only thinking of themselves when they are naming their kids. I don't particularly like my name, but I'm glad my mom didn't stick me with some off the wall name though.
