Leave me out of this lame thread.![]()
So then you have no problem with Islam?
It makes it easier for some religions that commit theft, molestation, murder, rape, whatever law or "sin" they break becuase they will say "Jesus died for my sins and if God can forgive me so can you"
Say 12 marys, kiss my hand and put 50 bones in the bin and all forgiven here on earth. It without question makes everything light and easier to bear.

Yes, I do.
But it's not Islam killing our troops in Iraq or taking down the WTC, it's people using it for political gain, right?
I'm not sure where you're going with this, but I would say it's probably some of both. I think the American side is heavily weighted in political gain, but the "terror" side is heavily weighted in Islam.
What's the difference between the Quran saying to kill infidels and the Bible saying the same?
If your belief requires you to make a clean breast of your conscience to your confessor on some kind of routine basis, that is the easy way?
It only looks that way from the outside.
I think about God when I'm toasted.
They don't say the same. Look at the words attributed to Mohammed and the words attributed to Jesus.
Mohammed repeatedly advocates the use of violence, saying things like:
- "Know that paradise is under the shade of swords."
- "Fight and slay the pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem"
- "My livelihood is under the shade of my spear, and he who disobeys my orders will be humiliated"
While Jesus condemned to use of violence in his teachings:
- "Put your sword back into its place; for all who take the sword will perish by the sword."
- "I say unto you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you."
- "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you"
Never does Jesus advocate violence to spread his message.
My "problem" (just agreeing with Bill Maher) with the examples I gave are with both.Religion because they had followers, used God, Jesus ,Allah whoever to get people to do what they wanted, follow them,in some cases even forgive them and do it all over again plus I have a problem with the heinous acts they committed such as rape,murder,molestation,etc.......
Not a heinous act: Married couples who under "God" take there vows only to break them. Or take them so literally the women is home cooking, cleaning obeying her husband to the point she has no life in some cases being beaten. I know some people will say thats her choice but is it? These kids grow up beliving the non sense they heard in church and think this what they have to do because "God" wants it that way and are scared if they don't. The person or persons who give money to charity even know they or there families need the money to eat. Those people who constantly are taken advantaged of,not sticking up for themselves because they believe in the story of Job.
On just religion ,if you go to church and follow the bible that ur business. In alot of area the bible is a good moral compass of life to go by but they are storys passed on from author to author from generation to generation with very very very very very very little truth if any at all.

I'm skeptical of believers, not belief.
Nice try leaving out the Old Testament.
"Eye for Eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot" (Exodus 21:24-25)
Kill any children who curse or hit their parents. (Exodus 21:15)
Any person or animal who touches Mt. Sinai shall be stoned to death (Exodus19:12-13)
"The Lord is a man of war." (Exodus 15:3)
"'Thus saith the Lord of Hosts : I remember that which Amalek did to Israel. how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys." (1st Sam 15:2-3)
God threatens to kill Abimelech and his people for believing Abe's lie. (Genesis 20:3-7)
God kills Judah's firstborn, then Onan is told to have sex with his brother's wife. Onan feels that the seed should not be his, so he spills his semen on the ground and not inside of the woman. God kills him too. (Genesis 38-8:10)
Just admit it. You don't agree with the Old Testament. Christians slapped their Gospels unto jewish texts to legitimize the 'prophecy' but in reality, jesus of gospels completely contradicts old testament god.
just admit it already. you only believe in jesus and the NT and want nothing to do with the old testament.
Those sayings are post-hijra and are mostly used out of context, but nonetheless they are still sayings of war against there enemies.
It's all absolute Babylonian bull . All of it.
come on, have a Big Mac with greasy fries
you know you want to.
I hate grammar police......but that's kinda funny
I have a problem with those guys too. But, it's important to distinguish between what an individual or group of people do and what the religion they claim to follow actually tells them to do. In truth, there are too many people who do things that are grossly inconsistent with the teachings of the religion that they allegedly follow. Then, instead of the finger being pointed at the individual, the finger is pointed at the religion he claims to represent. It's only right to blame the religion if that religious code actually espouses what it's alleged followers are doing.
I was comparing the teachings of Jesus to the teachings of Mohammed. But we can go here too, if you want. No where in the Bible (Old or New Testament) does God or Jesus command people to attack pagan nations, either in self-defense or as a way of promoting Christianity. In the Old Testament, God typically used wars as an act of judgement upon sinful and guilty nations. This was not a method of expanding the Jewish nation, but a judgement...regardless of who was guilty. Just as God used the Jews as an instrument of judgement against a guilty Canaanite nation, He also used Israel's enemies as agents of judgement aginst the guilty Jews.
There is no theology that exists that makes war and killing (as told in the Old Testament) a normal course of action for a Christian of any era. The Old Testament text serves as descriptive of the history of the Jewish nation, not a prescription for future followers to act upon.
I never judge a book by its cover.
Are you rejecting Yahweh?
If you're referring the the God of Israel (the Hebrew God...of the Old Testament), I gave my thoughts above:

I'll correct.
Too many people have a tendency to treat religious beliefs as sacrosanct.
