US Supreme Court agrees to hear case of Obama's eligility for Presidency due to foreign birth: Suit brought by California Libertarian Gail Lightfoot

    BREAKING NEWS!!!

Gail Lightfoot is a three-decades long California Libertarian activist.

She has run for numerous statewide and local offices over the years, including Attorney General on the Libertarian Party ticket.

She has served on the Libertarian National Committee, and as an Executive Committee member of the california LP. She's also been active with the Republican Liberty Caucus, serving as a local Coordinator. In 2008, she allowed her name to be placed on the ballot along with Alan Keyes, for Vice-President, on the American Independent Party line. The Party is no longer affiliated with the nationwide Cons ution Party, but has Cons utionalist roots.

Now the United States Supreme Court has agreed to hear her case on Obama's foreign-born status, disqualifying him from assuming the Presidency.

    From Arlen Williams, Renew America:

Chief Justice John Roberts has sent a full-throated challenge of Barack Obama's presidential eligibility to conference: Lightfoot v. Bowen (SCOTUS docket page). Investigating Obama (I.O.) interviewed Lightfoot lead attorney Orly Taitz at 2:20pm CT today, minutes after she learned of this move.

Taitz believes, "This is Chief Justice Roberts telling the Congress... the other eight Justices, that there is a problem with this election."

The Lightfoot case has legal standing, due to litigant, Libertarian Gail Lightfoot's vice presidential candidacy in California. It also addresses two major issues of legal merit: 1. Obama's failure to provide legally evidentiary do entation of citizenship and American birth and, 2. his United Kingdom citizenship at birth, passed to him by his Kenyan father when that nation was a British colony. (Other current challenges also submit that Obama's apparent status as an Indonesian citizen, as a child, would have caused his American citizenship to be revoked.) This case is therefore considered the strongest yet to be heard by the Supreme Court. Obama challenger, Philip Berg had previously been granted conference hearings, scheduled this Friday, 1/9 and on 1/16.

Note - LR will be closely following this story and offering frequent updates.

All that because the matter, which was summarily denied by the California Supreme Court and then by Justice Kennedy, wasn't summarily denied by Chief Justice Roberts but will, instead, likely be denied by the Court following its next conference?

It's usually helpful to understand how the Court works.

I hope they do hear this case because it needs to be put to rest once and for all. IF (and that's a BIG if) they do find him ineligible, it will really put a monkey wrench in things; however, this issue needs to be investigated fully so that all the nay-sayers can be silenced.

I just wish Obama had complied with all the requests and done what needed to be done to settle this issue. I know there was a previous thread talking about this issue and there was much posted about his Hawaiian birth certificate; but IMO it wasn't a full disclosure on Obama's part. If there's nothing to hide, then he should have made ALL the do ents available and they shouldn't have sealed his birth records.

I'd disagree, if only because nobody has presented a cognizable legal claim against Obama. Why on Earth should Obama have to disprove allegations that have no legal merit in the first place? And if he chooses to do that, what other allegations is he (or any other candidate) going to have to disprove to satisfy those who raise silly questions?

If someone can present a valid legal claim against Obama, he'll have to produce his birth certificate; until then, there's no reason for him to do anything.

And believe it or not, Obama did produce his birth certificate. They appear to be upset that he didn't do even more than that... in order to, like you said, disprove a bunch of whack job insinuations.

This notion has been raised in various suits in a number of jurisdictions and all of those suits have been dismissed.

Behind all the rumor it's really hard to tell. There is the reported witness that says he was born overseas however... Maybe there is some truth to it?

this just about summarizes the frame of mind of republicans today. Every single preposterous accusation has merit when it comes to Obama. Every single one, willing to give credibility to any wackjob that appears. Remind you of anyone?

I'm not convinced until I see actual video of Obama's birth with an American flag and a sign saying "Welcome to the United States" outside the hospital window.

Pfft that's how they faked the moon landing. Except they put a "Welcome to the Moon" sign outside, of course.

I think that unless Obama literally bleeds the colors red, white and blue he can't be an American. Cmon Obama! Prick your finger for America!

Maybe they decided to take the case to shut the nut-jobs up?

God I wish it were true, but I solidly believe he is a citizen.

I actually agree with this. I think it's a waste of the court's time, but it would be nice to shut up the conspiracy nuts.

lol, I think the most recent news I've read was that Orly Taitz was just slapped with a $30,000 fine for wasting the judiciary's time.

I wish he'd show it too so that the issue can be resolved once and for all...and the most su ious thing about it all is Obama's behavior...this isn't about his rights, it's about the privilege of being President of the USA.

As for Republicans believing any and all accusations against Obama, Democrats did the same thing with the Bush admin, they do the same thing with Sarah Palin.

This is the country we now live in, thanks to the 2000 Presidential Election when Al Gore put self interest above the good of the country.

This is a country of two political parties now and expecting one political party to trust the other and their candidates when they have totally opposing political agendas on every issue that there is, is by far the stupidest mindest of them all.

If you are a card carrying member of a political party, you are part of the problem.

I think it sucks, at the same time, I've got no problem with our politicians motivations being questioned, as long as it isn't serving a war opponent...Obama behaves peculiarly on this issue and always has and the Democrats insistence that we should just accept him blindly, basically means we should blindly be Democrats.

You guys demonized Bush and threw every ridiculous accusation at him it was possible to muster, you kept him so on the defensive that it was basically impossible for this country to function in any normal way...and now you want your guy to be handled with respect.

Why should they? You didn't respect their guy, in fact you wanted to get him so much you politicized a war to do it.

    Take your own medicine now.

I have never thought Obama wasn't a US citizen...the only su ion I have about him on this is due to his own behavior.

I do question his patriotism, and I have ample valid reasons for doing so...but this is something different. That's not really what this is....

And yes, if I was President and there were questions about my citizenship I would call a Press Conference show my birth certificate in front a panel of the leading birth certificate specialists and get it the over with.

I don't think the Presidency is a position that lends itself well to coyness of this sort. Nor is his behaviour do anything to reverse the polarity in this country, and since his political skill is supposed to be dliplomacy, I'm not impressed with the way he has handled this..no matter what his legal rights.
